Anyone have a locker in your shop?

I have a locker that was from my great grandpa's seed farm. He had a bunch of them for the employees and when he passed it was in my grandparent's garage. Used to put all our balls and bats and gloves in as kids. It's now in my shop and I'm not really sure what to use it for. I'd like to keep just because of the family history and memories but I'd also like to use it, not just sit there. It's a single wide locker that has an upper and lower locker door. I don't really need a secure space so won't be locking it. Also don't really need it to hang a jacket or anything up. Might use one locker for a clean space to hang my sweat shirt and hat while working but can also do that on one of the hooks on the outside of it.

Just trying to come up with some creative uses for the locker so it's not just "decorative".

Coveralls? Raingear? Motorcycle/atv riding gear?

Or you could add shelves inside and use it for chemical storage, it will never be as good as a flamables storage cabinet, but it's better than keeping paints and chemicals on an open shelf.

I picked up one to use for some clothing. Might put the safety/PPE consumables in it too. Advantage I see is that if rodents get into the shop, this will keep them out of clothing, etc. Utility depends on your needs, but if I wasn't putting clothes & PPE in it, there would be other uses; I'm sure.

Had one built in with the cabinets when I was riding. Hung my riding jackets, leathers, boots, etc. in there. Quit riding a few years ago & the "locker" just held the stuff I wasn't using..........:dunno:?

Decided I could make better use of the space, so here's what I did.........

I've got a 12"x12"x6' double door locker in my garage. The bottom holds welding coats. The upper holds pellet guns and rat poison, so it is locked.

I have a double wide expanded-metal gym locker. I added simple shelves and use it for paints, other chemicals. I can secure it if I needed but haven’t needed to. I like the fact that I can see everything in there without having to go digging.

I kind of like this idea. I do have a couple pellet guns laying in the shop that should be put away. I can see how my welding helmet, face shield, 3M respirators, safety glasses and other PPE fit in there. Would be nice to keep them put away and clean. Might make up a little key rack to put inside and keep all my keys locked up. Have keys for tool boxes, trailer tongue locks, trailer door locks, etc. and usually have a car or two in the shop most of the time that probably wouldn't hurt to have the keys locked up just in case someone breaks in. One more level of security they would have to go through to get to things.

I've got three banks of lockers. They provide a tremendous amount of storage.
I think I paid about $5/door.
2 of them are 5 high x 5 wide banks of 12" x 12"x 18" deep; (50 doors total)
Just converted a 2 high x 4 wide bank of 15" wide x 36" high x 18" deep, (8 doors total) into a rolling tool cabinet; will get pictures posted of the build.

They most often are 12 x 12.
So, a 16 x 16 square of floor is enough

I have 3 that hold oils, antifreeze, car parts, and general materials like rope, a folding step, and fishing gear. Sounds like a weird combo but it all works out. I added shelves to a couple of them.

I'm currently using a ~30"W double full-length door locker for exhaust pipe, headers, mufflers, and clamps. And 2 smaller 12"x12" ones store plastic bags and sheeting.

I was going to post a pic but guess I can’t. Mine are still a work in progress. Painted red with tractor implement paint. Riveting in shelf support brackets so can move shelves up and down. Hard part is finding bins or whatever to fit inside.

My dad had lockers from the old jr high school. Each one would hold a golf bag or golf bag cart. worked great for along the wall where you get out of the car. You no longer got coats or bags caught on the golf stuff as you got into or out of the cars. Looked nice there too, very compact and tidy.

too bad he sold them when he moved to his new house. Then he just bitched that he had no where good to put the golfs bags and they were always in the way. WTF? he didn't even consider moving them to the new place...

They could be great storage, they are steel and could be tailored nicely. I moved some of my body supplys in to one in unused space. I actually gained 16 sq ft of free floor space with that little remodel. I re used 2 major pieces and sorted all the body supplies in the locker. I since added a set of shelves to the left of the locker.

Yes. I found it on the curb in my neighborhood and it looked perfect for storing safety gear and soft goods in my garage.

I use it for all type of apparel that lives in the garage:
- mc helmets
- mc gloves
- mc boots
- work boots
- sweatshirts
- skateboard helmet/pads
- safety glasses
- mc jackets/pants

I hung a fire extinguisher and my shop cleanup gear (brooms, etc) on the side.

Worth the money I spent!

You could put it behind the bar and store the good liquor in it. What, you don't have a bar in your garage? Well now you have another project to complete, no need to thank me, I was glad to help

No bar in shop but do have a fridge in the utility room loaded with beer and liquor. Ended up putting the locker in the utility room. Utility room has Furnace, water heater, stand up shower, washer, dryer, fridge, toilet, and wash sink. And now a locker. I walk threw this room every time I enter the shop so I'm using the hooks on the outside to hang my sweatshirt and hat up when I go into the shop instead of just throwing them over the first thing I see that's usually dirty. My pellet gun didn't fit inside. My 4 year old daughter took over the bottom locker with her shop projects. Has a bucket of random stuff she finds and collects and paints and puts together. I'll get around to filling it with some other stuff in the near future, had to many projects to do this weekend. Will see about welding helmet and other PPE stuff. I do like the idea of a fire extinguisher, not sure if I will hang it on the locker or find somewhere else in that utility room for one. There should be one in there since it's the main entry/exit into the shop.

I have this one for my dirt bike gear, I love it. I'd like to get another one as I have more gear I'd like to store. I really just need more space for hanging things, this unit is kind of limited in that way, so I may just pick up a tall locker or cabinet for hanging stuff.

I love that it hides away the clutter and makes it easy to store and find things. Got it used at a pretty decent price.
