I'll see if I can find pictures of it, I had to call Skil to have them tell me about it. Apparently they don't have any records from the twenties though. It has an all aluminum body and a big motor.

ok doke, i was wrong, wasn't the first time, won't be the last.
It was a Model E - AND - It was manufactured from the time Skil Saw became the brand name, and ceased in 1942

Yeah the Model "E" is an OLD Model but I had never heard of a Model "B".

Skill still makes the worm drive circular saw. I picked up a brand new one on Ebay. Guess what, it's now made in China
Harbor Freight also sells a worm drive circular saw, which I bet is made in the same plant as the Skillsaw. Looks like the same saw to me?

anyone know if there might be a service manual out there for this saw or one like it? I would like to do a full take down and cleaning and replace the wires and things and see if i can get it to work again, I was reading someone did that recently with an air compressor and it worked well for them. Then again the grim might be holding it together. If I can get it apart, fixed, and back together I think I might try to polish it too.

Man that thing is beautiful. I've been staring at the picture so long, I figure I should post my appreciation.
We found a model e in the garage of my boyfriend's deceased father. It has serial number 200118....We are going to spruce it up a little, not sure what it needs. But his dad was a cabinetmaker and woodworker, and always took good care of his tools. The insulation around the wiring is cracked and the wires are not corroded. It is over 75 years old after all. Interested?

If you don't mind new paint... and plastic handgrips... bosch makes a worm drive with either a quick connect feature or a regular cord. I got the quick connect and bought a dedicated 75' heavy extension cord that i just leave on it. It's very nice because you don't have the plug getting hung up on stuff like sawhorse feet all the time. It's not super heavy. It has a nice stiff, waffled (magnesium?), foot plate/table, and the grips have enough tack to them that if your hand is sweaty or you're wearing gloves... it doesn't slide around on you.
