I checked out this local company today and got a few quotes for our new building. They are here in Ok city, and seem a good value.

A 30X40X10 weld up kit is $6,059 bucks. It includes everything except a big door. Insulation is another $1100

just wondering if anyone has any experience with these types of buildings. I asked about installation and concrete and they told me around $9,000 to do the work with a local contractor. That's 4" slab.

I really want the bolt together girder style but he said since I am going to just use it as a weekender shop in my backyard this would do.

The bolt together runs around $5,000 more for the same size kit, because of steel prices.

It looks good their are lots od these type buildings in this area in Texas. I don't think you will have a problem with them . The weld up buildings are very strong and go up fast.

Is it going to be inspected? Will he provide engineering? Does he have certified welders? Does his liability insurance specifically cover steel erecting and welding?
Not saying it can't be done. Just be carefull.

I'm having one built (20x40x10) by Gotcha Covered in Noble OK. It's costing me 17000, that building, concrete, erection, and delivery. Be aware that OKC requires a 4-12 pitch roof, that why my shop is costing so much. I went to everyone in this area and they dont tell you their building has 3-12 pitch unless you ask.

Yeah that's a 4-12 roof. The 3-12 is a little cheaper. They do not erect the buildings themselves. They have a list of contractors that they will give you if you ask. But they don't guarantee them. That's between you and them.

He said prices will vary between contractors, But for a 30X40X10 building, it would be around $9,000 est. to have it built. It doesn't look like there's much to them. That's what worries me. He said they were plenty strong though.

I havent had good luck with that style construction. Ours was existing when we bought property. Why not go with a pole barn.

I have not checked with our local city office to see if they will allow a pole barn in town. I have never seen one around here so I'm not sure. All the ones in my area are metal framed.

A pole barn kinda worries me. I haven't checked into them much and would be concerned about the poles rotting over time, re-sale value if we move and how sturdy they are. I see them on here all over on here but need to read up on them I guess.

That doesn't make sense. Did you mean labor costs?

If the contractor has certified welders to do this kind of assembly (similar to a bridge welder I would assume), I don't see anything wrong with welding it v/s bolting it.

My guess would be fab cost increases, hardware, etc

Yeah, he said the bolt together runs $5,000 more. He said it is impossible to give an exact quote because the price changes with the steel prices. But he said a bolt together generally runs $5,000 more.

I went and looked at a huge weld together today and it looks really good. The main posts were 3" I'm pretty sure.

I built a 40x50 steel building, welded, insulated, and ridge vents, and gutter system, back in 2003. Mine was turn-key, with two 12x12 doors, one front, one rear, one 10x10 front, two garage door openers, four windows, one pass through door. 12 ft. wide driveway 160 ft. leading to a 40x52 apron, and a 12 ft. side driveway 60 foot long, all 4 inch deep concrete...turn-key cost less electric, 33K... A friend in my neighborhood had just built one by the same contractor but his was 60 ft. long and he actually had more concrete and doors than me, just under 43K...Personally, I would go with the welded structure assuming you get a good welder. That is difficult to determine but talk to your contractor and get some assurance...Mine never creaked or made weird noises, and although I no longer live there, the garage is still standing, still looks new, and a conversation with the current owner a few weeks ago confirms that it is still an awesome structure...

. . . assuming you get a good welder. That is difficult to determine but talk to your contractor and get some assurance...

The quality of the welds seems to be the key. With bolt-together buildings, I imagine that the quality is reasonably consistent between different manufacturers. With weld-up buildings there may be more variation.

If the contractor who put up OzCop's building worked in NC, I would be requesting a bid!
