I have a few axes and other tools. I will try and get some pictures. This brings me to my "holy grail" quest. This is a sharpening gauge from the US Forest Service and can be used for pulaskis (fire ax). Does anybody know how I can get one?

OK a bit more digging: is it in here on page 11?

I have a few but I just use them as needed rather than preserve them as a collection. Mine are things like a regular axe, a maul, a few wedges, and sledge hammers. I have used them many times to split firewood, chop out running tree roots from the lawn, etc. The chainsaw usually does the tree cutting but I have cut down some trees with an axe many years ago.

Have any of you guys made a handle for an axe or hatchet head? I have been able to pick up a few heads at the random garage sale, and I think it would be great to make a new handle. Kind of gives you more of a connection to the tool as well (no pun intended).

I am a woodworker, so the idea of making a handle is not technically overwhelming, but i figured if any of you have done it, I would love to pick up any pointers!

I made this handle from what was left of a broken axe handle..the axe head was found on shores of Hudson Bay many years ago.
