In this thread, Rhandwor was kind enough to point me towards OTC as a possible source of a spindle nut socket.

On this page of their website I see two such sockets, part# 7157 and 7158. Unfortunately there are no dimensions listed.

Does anyone have these sockets and if so, could someone please measure the the I.D of the part that goes over the nut? I'm looking for 52mm (2 1/16").

Thanks in advance

I'll try to remember to check fri. a.m.

I'd sure appreciate it. My only other option is to buy a $280 socket from a proprietary manufacturer. I really don't want to do that as the first thing I'm going to to when I get a socket is cut it in half. I need it to tighten a bearing that's about 20" down a shaft, so I'm gonna have to weld in a chunk of pipe.

2-3/8 for the d44 socket and 2-1/2 for the d60 socket. Your not going to be able use either of those but if you got a piece of 2" pipe you could probably clearance it slightly and grind the notches yourself or bring it into a machine shop and pay one hour for a custom one.

I've already had one milled, wasn't hard enough. How do you mean 'grind the notches myself'? These are gonna be internal protrusions? Will probably still be cheaper to get another milled and heat treated, starting with a harder grade stock.

Thanks a lot for the info the OTC sockets:thumbup:

I measured a Matco SP 106 and it is 54mm or 2 3/32 and the dogs are 50mm. The SP 107 is larger.
