I have a chance to pick up a miller roughneck 2e from a family member who inherited it and doesn't do much welding. Anyone have experience with these. It's ac only which is fine because I learned to weld on a Lincoln 225 buzzbox anyway it'll be real nice having a portable welder for side work and theres no way I can afford a new ranger or bobcat. Seems like a good machine just a thunderbolt run off a tecumseh engine it seems. Thinking I'm gonna grab it. Anyone have experience with these?

They are ok if free. A lot of portable work is on equipment out of position so DC makes a big difference. I think those are pretty old, I wouldn't dig real deep for it.

I have a miller 1E it's not a roughneck so mine is DC I paid $500.00 for it and just needed a card rebuild, but if it is cheap enough and you don't mine welding AC then go for it, they are good machine's been around a long time and they make a lot more rods for AC welding than they used to, the way I look at it is it worth a lot just to be mobile
