I had one of these installed at my home on November 1st. It is connected to my wi-fi and provides reports on usage, I noticed that it reported that I hadn't used any water in over week, hmm, something must be wrong. Sent an email to customer support and they replied quicky saying the the impeller had failed and offered a no charge replacement. After thinking about this some I wonder if my well water supply is allowing enough sediment into the system that might cause this. I did have a Hydra Blow Down filter (Ra600090) installed after the Moen valve to capture any sediment that might be present in the system. I do have a Colligan water softener system that had been installed in the house prior to my purchase.

The Moen valve was installed just after thee well pump pressure tank, followed by the Hydra blow down filter, and then to the Colligan softener. From the looks of the interior of the pipe that leads to the valve and filter , the filter was certainly needed. Given the quick failure of the impeller in the valve I wonder if the filter should be installed before the Moen valve instead of after. This would prevent that muck from possibly causing a problem with the valve again. I mentioned this to the plumber who responded that he had installed these parts according to the suppled instructions. However looking at the deposits in the pipe and the subsequent failure of the valve I wonder if the filter should be in line before the water reaches the valve instead of after. The filter has capture a lot of sediment in a short time period, the picture of the sediment was taken just after the install. Just in case anybody is wondering, when I purchased the house a water test was required by the township and it did pass that test.

The reasoning the filter is placed after the tank is the pressure switch is located generally at the pressure tank, should the filter become overloaded the water flow will drop and the pressure switch will not work correctly, my pressure switch is located before the filter and pressure tank My biggest issue is a clogged filter cause extreme pressure psi when the pump started as in a momentary 180psi pressure spike ( about 2-3 seconds), the well tubing is rated 160psi. In my case I have a setup which does not allow the switch to be installed after the filter/pressure tank, I installed a small pressure tank before the switch which corrected the issues.

If your filter can not handle the iron/manganese IO have a filter similar to the linked below, expensive but they remove a great deal of iron/sand ect.
