Anyone have experience with Remarkable 2 or Boox Note Air 2 plus

Has anyone used either of these?

Looking for a note taking device that I can also do diagrams and other work for projects around the house, shop and farm as well as my day job where I'm a data architect. The two that I'm looking at are the Remarkable 2 and the Onyx Boox Note Air 2 Plus. I use one note for work quite a bit so the boox looks like it would be the better option from what I can see as I can run the android onenote app and write directly into it then convert to text in the desktop version. Where the Remarkable I'd have to jump through hoops to have all my work notes in one location as it doesn't integrate with one note.

I'm guessing no-one has tried either of these. Talked myself out of both of these and going to order the Onyx Boox Tab Ultra today. Has better pen, better hardware specs, a case you can buy with a keyboard, camera on back to scan documents, more memory built in and bigger battery.

If you haven't seen it there's an Amazon version available now. Also, OneNote is near the end of it's lifespan if you're not already aware.

For most people they're probably better off with an iPad/Kindle Fire

I looked at the Amazon version as well, just wasn't real impressed with it or it's features.

I have a surface pro fully maxed out, it's my personal one and I don't want work office or other apps linked to it, plus I don't like using a 3k high end tablet/laptop for lugging to meetings when traveling or doodling on planes, etc... I use it for doing video edits, graphics editing via gimp, coding personal projects, 3d modeling with Autodesk fusion 360, 3d printer software, streaming stuff while working, giant music collection, bill paying and whatever else for all my personal needs. It sets in a monitor arm with four clamp arms tied into a couple of monitors on my desk with wireless keyboard and trackball going through a docking station.

So it's not easily portable or a quick grab while on meetings when I need to jot down some notes or draw a quick diagram on some thoughts or sketch out a rough design while sitting on the couch for something in the shop or around the farm.

Looks like it will be 2025 I think when onenote is phased out, I'll cross that bridge when it gets there.

Looking forward to my new toy when it gets here next week and see how it works out for what I aim to use it for. Tired of all the sticky notes and random scribbled on pieces of paper with notes on them.

Just last week I was in a meeting and the guy on one side of me had the Remarkable 2 and the guy on the other side had the Boox - I'm not sure which model.

They were sharing notes on their note taking and it seemed like the Boox was better in many ways. I asked them if they'd looked at the Amazon device and both said it wasn't ready for prime time yet, but Amazon would probably take over the market.

The big difference was the Boox seemed to have handwriting recognition built-in.

Yes the boox has handwriting recognition built in, probably won't work on mine.... but it's built in. Remarkable you had to send it to pc to do

I don't have either so not really helping...but I've been looking at the remarkable for a while, was about 90% of the way to deciding to buy one but wasn't even aware of the Boox. After this post and looking at the Boox, even with the significant price difference the Boox may be what I end up with.

If this was a really low-key ad for the Boox, mission accomplished.

lol, I was planning on getting a remarkable 2 as well till I decided to search what else was out there and been going down that rabbit hole for a week now with this and searching for bluetooth over the ear headphones that work with Teams as well..... That's an even worse rabbit hole.

I looked at the website and they seem to have many Boox models.

I just want one for what it seems like you do - I like to take notes on paper, but then I have piles of notebooks and scraps of paper with notes on them. I've used onenote successfully, but don't always have access to it. Hadnt heard they were phasing it out, it's a great platform.

yeah they do have quite a few models, but the writeable ones I saw are the note air 2 plus, tab ultra and tab x. I thought the tab x would be a bit to big when I travel to london for work and add just additional weight without much benefit, plus the heftier price tag.

The remarkable 2 looked good till I priced out adding the 129.00 pen and the 129.00 cover for it, then it didn't look so good.

I have been looking at those as well. So far, I haven’t been able to justify the cost to “see” if I will like it and actually use it. Sigh, I have about a gazillion items I’ve bought over the years that got relegated to the junk drawer.

That being said, I handwrite pages of notes several times a week in my job, and I can see how having all those notes in Onenote (which I use a lot) would be handy.

I agree that the Boox, running Android, is the way to go. I am a Windows user as far as PC is concerneed, but an iphone and ipad user for mobile. I’d love to have a device that worked on ios.

I'm an android guy, I had an iPhone way way back in the day when they came out and hated it. I've never been a fan of the apple locked down systems being an old school system hacker and liking to build my own systems and customize various things. Been a Samsung user for quite a long time now, so it folds in well with what I use. I think the only real option if you want the apple universe would be an ipad mini, but then you wouldn't have a paper like writing surface / eInk experience.

I get the appeal of Android and Samsung makes some great devices. I have an ipad pro with the Apple pencil and take some hand written notes. But it’s definitely not a paper-and-pencil like experience.

My SO has the remarkable. She received it as gift from some of co-workers who are avid remarkable users. It does seem to work well as a capture device but it's clear that you have to develop a specific workflow for the remarkable to be an asset and not just another separate gadget. Can't tell you much more than that. Good luck.

Picked my Boox tab ultra on Friday from the post office. Got it setup and played with it for a bit. Setup one note, setup kindle, played with notes on there and how it interpreted my hand writing to text. Did a really decent job considering how crappy my hand writing is. I only had to correct 2 letters in the 10 words I wrote.

So far I'm liking it. Has a calendar and really like being able to write notes on particular days as well. So it will be a good way to keep track of schedules for travel and other things.

I did spend the money and bought the keyboard cover for it, how it works is when you want to use it, you attach it in stand mode and the keyboard gets it's power from the boox.

Still learning all the little aspects of it, but so far, I really like it. My wife played with it a bit as well and she seemed to like it but wouldn't admit it being afraid I'd by one for her to use at work.... She's an RN case manager and uses a paper planner and notebooks for everything, but very set in her ways....

I've been using my book tab ultra for over a year now, really like it. It works great as an e reader and a hand written note system. I've used it at conferences to take notes. While flying, used it to read books, type up thoughts or notes as I think about things I need to remember. Been very happy with it.
