Looking for a pair of strippers that strip from the "front" of the stripper, not off to the side. I have a pair of Southwest Wire strippers but I have found it's often hard to get into where I need to use it.

Came across a pair of Knipex that look pretty good and I am a huge fan of Knipex pliers anyhow but I thought I'd ask if anyone on TGJ had any first hand experience before I ordered them.

TIA

Update - I got considerable negative feedback on the Knipex strippers from another forum / social media.

Ended up buy Capri strippers from Amazon at a fraction of the cost with free shipping.

I'm not a professional - I just mess around with stuff. These might get used 2 - 4 a month. I suspect they will meet my needs okay.

I’ve had the capri for a couple years. It’s pretty good. I don’t use it a lot, because I prefer a fixed one when I can use one. I have used them on tiny little wire, and they have saved the day stripping some hard to reach auto wiring, where the free wire was very short

That is what I ran into fixing the snowplow wiring on my Gator. Some of the wires off the winch solenoid were pretty short. I want a pair like these so the next time I come up against that, I'll have the right tool.

Almost certainly rebranded Weicon, great wire stripper 👍

I don't have that model specifically, but I have the more expensive 12 40 200 version (was ~$87 on Zoro). It took a fair bit of fiddling to dial it in and figure out the best placement of wire and such, but once I did that it has been solid. No complaints.

I have the Weicon; IME it works really well for smaller wires; I've had mixed results on larger wires as sometimes it doesn't always fully/cleanly go thru the insulation.

There have been several discussions here on this in the past and the Weicon is always well recommended- even though your first impression may be that it seems like it's from the Fisher Price tool division :ROFLMAO:

Well that answers the question "who made the Cornwell strippers"

I find the depth stop to be laughably terrible, it moves EVERY time you strip a wire. It otherwise does ok for automotive work.

I have the Knipex op posted. Takes a little futzing to get it right, but it works ok. The biggest flaw for me was when stripping older wires where the plastic insulation has hardened slightly over time. It had a hard time making a clean cut there. New wire worked much better. I only need it occasionally so I live with it.
