We have the Mac at work as our shop gun. Very powerful. It gets beaten on very hard and never gets oiled or anything as no one cares enough to do it for shop tools. Best 3/4 I have used hands down. Bit heavier than some others I have used but with that big of a gun what do you expect.

I plan to buy one eventually so I don't have to run to the tool crib for it always.

If you were interested, the 1/2 and 3/8 models are also tops. I'm not a big mac fan for a few reasons, but they were on the ball when they made these guns.

UPS says it will be here on Tuesday... My only gripe with Tools-Plus is shipping always takes a day or two longer than others.

I can get the Mac gun for half price due to my student discount, so I'll be taking advantage of that soon. For me the discount is cheaper than getting the Proto version, although I like the Proto color scheme and looks better.

I'll probably eventually wind up with the 1/2 gun too and maybe the 3/8. Right now I'm running a Nitrocat for the 1/2 gun.

Yeah, I just graduated so no more discount for me... Plus the MAC version is sooo ugly anyway :spit:

I've never been a fan of their logo, and I hate the color choice for the gun. The Proto is a nice one, though.

I don't buy much from the tool trucks, but I do take advantage of the discounts for certain items that aren't as available from other sources (Matco pinless impact swivels, for example, more selection and the student discount price is about the same as buying from Armstrong or Craftsman)

Finally found a test worthy of this gun...

I am quite familiar with this trailer. It'll routinely stop our 1" tire gun pulling the wheels off (corrosion anyone?). The Proto didn't even slow down loosening up the lug nuts :D

Size comparison to a 2135ti. The power this gun has is incredible... Completely blows our shop 3/4 guns out of the water (IR 261's). It's quieter than my 2135 even when hammering away! Best of all it doesn't twist your arm around like the Aircat 3/4 guns do.

That settles it, the Proto 3/4 is the one I will be getting soon.

Currently have a Nitrocat 1/2 that I'm more than satisfied with but if it needs replacement then the Proto 1/2 will be the gun of choice.

Size comparison with a 2145QiMAX. The IR is slightly lighter and smaller but is very front heavy and even more so with a socket. I had a 2145 as a shop gun at my last job and the imbalance of the gun will actually start hurting your wrist if you use it all day. For an occasional user it would never be an issue I suspect.

I will admit that I like CP's reverser but their old gun has nothing else going for it here...

This does not come naturally having always used IR guns in the past. I wish Proto would have used a different reverse lever/switch. I guess it's not all that bad but you have to stop and think about it when switching directions.

The grease fitting is actually accessible with the boot on (Ahem, IR take notes)

Seems to fit well in hand. Not too terribly awkward like an IR 261 or Aircat 1601

I can't speak to trigger feathering because well, if I go to the trouble of dragging out a 1/2" hose, something will move. I'm not messing around trying to feather bolts out slowly. I want it out now :willy_nil

The retaining ring is really really stiff also (I hate it when sockets fall off an impact).

Of course I got mine after seeing yours, I am absolutely amazed at the power and the lack of noise it makes. Almost zero noise out of it, except for the sound of the hammers inside. Took off a Honda crank bolt that my MG725 wouldn't touch, as if it were a loose lugnut on a car. Not too heavy or bulky, and it looks bitchin!

Did you get the 1/2" or 3/4"?

So you ask for advise, the first offered points towards Mac...you reply w/ Proto... :dunno:

They're the same gun, Just the proto is $250 cheaper then the mac. He was asking if anybody had one or the other, so that if somebody had good luck with the mac, it would imply that the same luck would be had with the proto.

Update: Did some front suspension work on a garbage truck today and it had no trouble at all with the 1 1/4 bolts (1 7/8 socket). Thing is unstoppable, although the trigger is still not growing on me.

I was up under a garbage truck the other day and got a drop of trash juice in my ear. I've never moved so fast in my life! Out from under the truck, gloves off, stuffed a rag in my ear. Got lucky, it was only a recycling truck. The ones that haul garbage are the worst, especially this time of year in the heat.

If you are able, I'd love to see a video of this thing in action! Nice gun!

I'm not a fan of garbage trucks either...

I can't take video at work but I might be able to come up with something at home. Maybe this weekend.

Update: I finally got used to the goofy reverser/power regulator. I did manage to stop it on some trailer suspension bolts but they stopped our newly rebuilt 1800 ft-lb 1" gun too. Had to get out the smoke wrench for those :Twitch:
