I think that is the new "Craftsman Professional" replacement box line. If I'm correct they haven't been out all that long.

For that price, you are into used snap on territory. I would be looking that way before the craftsman.

Is thee"old" professional line good quality?

The old Pro stuff is good quality, but hard to find. They were trying to compete with the big boys back then with that toolbox line, and failed miserably.

That box is decently big at 46" wide and 24" deep, but for $1,500 you can get a used Snap-On box that is much higher quality and even larger. Depends on what is available on your local craigslist.

I have looked at the Kobalt. The Kobalt is smaller (I am only interested in the lower box) and less money. This craftsman is a little pricey but is 24" deep and weighs 463 pounds and a lot of storage.

Well it is wider and deeper so that makes sense. I wonder if its the same as the Menards box? Looks similar (but more expensive)

The 54" Snap On boxes that are 24" deep go for $2000 to $2400 round here. The big advantage of them is that you are buying an asset that can be resold at the same price if needed.

I'd personally have a hard time spending that much on a Cman bottom box alone. It may be a nice box and would be really nice to check one out at a Sears but nobody carries that expensive of a box.

If you do purchase it, take some pictures and do a review of it and tell us about it.

Will do if I order. It won't be delivered here until Aug. 25-27 if I order online.

That is the bring back of old pro series before the big flop boxes. They have been around probably 15 years. They are the same as the old waterloo magnum series. Very well built boxes from what I have seen.

I had one of the old Cman Pro boxes, 36" wide x 21" deep, much better than the HF box, and cheaper too. If you can find one used, they go for between $200-400- retail was around $1300!

I have one of the older pro boxes exactly that size. Good box and built much better than my HF box. Don't know about the quality now aday's though. I got mine for half price as it had a blemish and the guy that ordered it wouldn't take it.

The picture doesn't due the box justice. These boxes aren't stocked in Sears, they're special ordered and dropshipped from waterloo.
Now the question is, is it the same as the older Magnum series?

Since the Magnum series left a lot has changed. Waterloo moved production to Mexico. I don't see where the Craftsman box has a life time warranty like the old professional series did. However, Waterloo is cranking great boxes for Cornwell at over twice the price of the Craftsman box.

If the new craftsman box still has roll cage construction and is as sturdy as the old series, it's a great box. It's just hard to buy something out of a catalog based on a single picture.

I guess if you weren't satisfied though, you could return it.:dunno:

Fedwrench.....thanks for the input. Would be nice to see this in a store but from what I can tell and what you have said it is not stocked by Sears. I keep coming back to its weight 463lbs.......

I worked at sears a few years ago. I have never seen the industrial line of boxes so it must be reasonably new. However their professional series was really nice. It was the only box that had a lifetime warranty!

INMHO if the box is going to be stationary look at the less expensive HF boxes. The main reason to build a 463 lbs box is so when your moving it around the shop and from job to job it will survive the tugging and pushing loads. For the price of the Sears box you can by four 44" HF boxes with money left over or two of the bigger 56" boxes.
