I have a classic 78 I have to move (switching jobs) has anyone had snap on move their box before? My new job called their snap on guy and he wants 100 bucks to move it, I might try and talk with him to see if he can come down any if I buy a 400 dollar air ratchet, and he's getting a new customer right? I think my only other option is a flatbed or a trailer, which would probably be just as much. My only other though was to take all the tools out, then put some tow straps on it with a 2x4 to stabilize and winch it up with a chainfall into my pickup bed, then unload it the same way or back it into a bay and use the lift arms. If anyone has any ideas please add. This sucker is heavy unloaded.

Most tool truck guys that I know will not move a loaded box. My liftgate has a limit of 1600lbs & a full tool box will exceed that. Also, it's not insured if something happens to it. If you use a flatbed wrecker it will be insured for damages.

The ones I've heard of being moved involved rollbacks. Mights a lot more sense.

I will now and then, but I will not go out of my route to get the box though. the last time I did that i ended up 20 miles out of the way and the guy was late showing up. My wife accused me of visiting a woman it took so long. the guy then expected me to do it for free. It took that much in gas to get out there and back. then I had to help him push the box up a 40 foot long driveway at a 25 degree angle. it was a krl1001 that ended my box moving days.
get a roll back from one of the better wrecker companies. licensed bonded and insured are a must.

The UHaul 5x9 open ramp trailers cost only $25/day to rent, and work great for moving toolboxs. I've moved lots of boxes with them, including KRL triple banks. You'll need some heavy ratchet straps though. Also, I always remove the tools, as these trailers have a capacity of 1,500 lbs. I use a bunch of those $5 HD plastic bins, and put the loaded bins inside my SUV as I tow the trailer.

I have moved them before but I wont do it anymore. The last guy that asked could not understand why I would not drive close to 100 miles to move his box to his new job that was not in my route and do it for free. Call a wrecker, rent a trailer, etc.. These tool trucks are not cheap to operate and our time during the day is valuable.

My dealer moved my box for me a couple of times. He refused to take any money for it as well. I've also used one side of a 2 post lift to load and unload boxes from pickup trucks.

The snap on guy says he doesnt do them anymore because hes too busy during the day which is understandable but he knows a guy with a trailer that will do it for a 100 bucks, which isnt bad so i think ill just pay him the money and have it done.

I don't know i would trust random guy with trailer 1 you don't know him that well and 2 if he damages it i can almost guarantee he'll never have the insurance to come any where close to cost of replacement.

I have seen a lift trailer that is designed for scissor lifts. Basically the whole floor lowers to ground height plus 1-2 inches with a ramp, then you load it, and it has hydraulic rams to lift the floor up to operating height. It was very, very sturdy, and had a double axle independent suspension. My local rental place has it. Im sure if you can find a place to rent scissor lifts, you can find the trailer.

put 2 or 3 ratchets straps around it to hold the drawers shut. Never ever trust the locks. I worked with a guy that had a flatbed spill his box all over the road because the locks failed.

edit- looked similar to this trailer

Sunbelt rents them but it looks like theirs are only rated to 4k lbs

My SO dealer would do it for me if I unloaded it, as long as it was in his territory or close to it.

You could talk to a local tow company with a rollback wrecker. If the new job is not too far away, it might make sense to try that if you don't want to unload everything out of your box.

Just use the lift in your bay and a couple straps to pick up the box and put it in your truck. Same thing to unload. Chances are you are going to be more careful moving it than anyone else. It's not rocket science.

Beware most tow truck insurance covers vehicles only not toolboxes. Most tow companies here in my area won't move toolboxes because of liability. I had mine moved that way one time and the guy dumped my locker off the end of the box unloading it. Got the "sorry bud" and piss off. A Uhaul low trailer worked much better.

I moved my empty 72" box on a snowmobile trailer and it was tough to load and unload. I was offered a forklift but refused, using forks on the box is sure to damage it.

What should I do bout it

That’s a great question that deserves an answer from somebody experienced in that kind of stuff. It’s a revival of a zombie thread but nevertheless worth of somebody’s attention.

How is a guy supposed to earn money (to pay off his tab) as a tech if his box full of tools are held hostage at his old employer’s shop? Did you sign a contract with wording allowing that to happen to you? Is the driver trying to tell you that the entire balance is now due and payable?

He trying to say I have to pay it off in full but most of is on snapon credit account which is in my credit report. So in my eyes they are mine unless I stop paying and I never did. You done buy a car and leave it at car lot till it payed off

Move the box and tell them to pound sand. If you're paying snap on credit pay them directly and skip the dealer. As for the balance on the truck keep receipts of attempted and successful payments. Use a checking account with just enough money for the truck account payment so he can't clear out your account. All of this presumes you're in good standing on your payments.

@youngracer Tell these asshats to F off.
"he won't let you"??? You own the box, snappy merely has a lein against it. Unless it has been repossessed you are free to do whatever the F you want with it, wherever the F you want. I've moved my box on a roll back tow truck with no problems.
Snappy #2 doesn't want your business? Screw him.
Who the F do these clowns think they are? Judging by your screen name and the fact that you asked this question I'm guessing you are indeed young. Your Snap-On dealer has a golden opportunity to cultivate another lifelong fan boy customer but would rather be a **** instead.
How was your first sip of the Snap-On Kool-Aid? Had enough yet?

There is likely more to this story. I have never had a problem having a dealer move my box.

Even on SO credit they ding the dealer you are moving from, and pay the dealer you are moving to. They all get a piece of the pie, when SO credit is involved.

Not really aiming this at the poster, it could be between the dealer and SO.
