I need a piece to vent an exhaust fan, and I really hate to have to buy a 25 or 50' piece when I only need 6'.......
Anyone have some scrap 12" Flex duct laying around?

Stop buy a local HVAC place they will sell you a chunk for a couple of dollars or less.

Is there any new home or office construction in your area? I have seen workers throwing nearly full boxes of flex duct in the dumpsters, in a development nearby. When I looked in there, I also found full length 2x4's with only a few nails that could easily have been pulled out and the lumber re-used, and I found half-sheets of 1" R-Max foam board that was perfect.
Unbelievable what some of these guys throw away, when it isn't their money paying for it.

X2 on finding a hvac truck and asking for 6' piece or dumpster dive.

I love to dumpster dive. See a commercial remodel job going on....stop and look inside!
I initially thought you were saying a 12" diameter flex duct. That you will not just find laying around. If you are saying 3" or 4" then you should be able to find this at Home Depot. Are maybe you are needing the flexible ducting that is wrapped in insulation.
