I just got some free new Sunex tools from a relative a couple of days ago for my birthday. I got a combo wrench set with a convenient wrench holder pouch and a huge screwdriver set. I used one of the wrenches so far and they look to be decent. I've never heard of Sunex before. Anybody else familiar with Sunex tools? Whats your take on them?

I bought a set on metric stubbies from Amazon earlier in the month. They are chrome finish and like yours, came in a nice pouch. They have the manufacturer's name and size laser etched on the wrenches. There isn't a COO on them, so I suspect PRC.

For the $$, I think around $30 delivered, not a bad deal for 10 pieces and the pouch. I haven't used them yet.

I did buy a set of Williams stubbies from Epstein's so these will most likely be a truck set.

Thanks for the replies so far, guys!

Never heard of them either? How about some pictures?

I'll try my best to get pictures, my only camera is on my phone and its crappy quality. Can anyone chip in with some pictures of Sunex tools they have?

i have a pair of sunex impact sockets, 1/2 inch drive, 19 and 22mm. they work great, and seem to be a well-made product. i bought them to replace the respective sized pittsburgh (harbor freight) sockets that have cracked over time. as i break more of my pittsburghs, i'll replace them with sunex.

a coworker has the 3/8 sunex impact socket set, uses them on all kinds of repair jobs from interior to the heavy line (trans, engines, diesel) and has zero complaints.

I have their impact master 1/2" and 3/8" metric sets. Love them. Great quality, cheap, and don't skip any sizes. Also have their triple square drive set. No complaints.

you could probably flag down a tool truck to get any tools warranted, as long as they carry sunex. i bought mine off of a local independent tool rep, so warranty is no problem for me.

Alright, i keep hearing about these tool trucks on the journal. I never knew they existed! Is it sort of like an ice cream truck except for mechanics? haha. I know i'm going slightly offtopic but i'll keep it Sunex related. Say im looking for a Sunex tool, and i want to find one of these trucks, is there any general site that shows their route?

I don't have a side by side picture, but can say the finish is far superior to the SO impacts in the roll cart at work. Obviously I am talking about impact sockets, not wrenches.

Most everything is made in taiwan, the impacts are 4140 chromoly, a select few things MAY be made in south carolina, but nothing of the basic hand tool variety.

As far as I can tell Sunex is one of half a dozen companies that brand the same basic products from Taiwan. Slightly upscale from HF, usually very solid function, but not always pretty. Genius, Titan, Mountain, are some others that appear at least to offer the same tools branded with their names.

Sunex's impact swivels used to be made in Japan.I have a set of these, the deepwell impact swivel metric set in 3/8'' drive made in Japan. The replacements are made in Taiwan now.Take a very long time to get a replacement under warranty.Had one this way, took over a month to get one.

In a number of those cases, Sunex is the actual OEM supplying all of those other resellers (including the truck brands) with the products bearing their own brands.

I have alot of sunex, never had a problem yet. They are by no means "snap-on" probably not even "craftsman". They are cheap and seem to work good. My angle wrenches are thin and flex a little.

A friend of mine swears by their impact sockets.
Especially the swivel impacts.

I have some sunex impact sockets and they are comparable with a GP (grey pneumatic) they dont break. I have noticed their wrenches have much poorer quality control.

Where do you guys come up with this ****?!?!?!?!?!:headscrat:wtf::dunno:

Its kinda true, look at Mac's impact wrenches and you realize one of them is a re branded Sunex, same with some of their service carts, and if you watch a certain video on youtube about sunex they seem to have alot of boxes with a MAC logo in their warehouse

I definitely agree as far as impact sockets. Neither of those companies come close for the standard garden variety impacts. Well the SO has certain advantages, some are a slightly lower profile, their stampings are by far the best of any I have used (sunex, cman, bluepoint, williams, wright, snap on) The finishes from the US are definitely lacking in adequate protection, and quite a few of the so's have slight damage to the drive ends. The cman impact socket just magically appeared in the box, no clue how, it's finish is also lacking in the rust protection department.

I did wire brush a sunex socket to try to remove the coating for durability testing. Didn't really phase it in the bench grinder/wire brush.

No have broken or shown significant wear in a heavy truck shop. After looking at the cman impact that magically appeared, I could definitely not justify 77% increased cost for what seems to be slightly inferior product. The one plus I will give cman is the laser etching did outlast the joke black coating it came with. The so I have were new "freebies" part of a set.

No comment on wrenches, the USA probably still has quite a superior product.

I have a set of Sunex tamper torx sockets. Ive only used them once so far but they worked great, and they cost around 8 dollars on sale on amazon. How could I say no? Also I believe the COO to be Korea on Taiwan I can't remember

I have a 1/4in hex ratchet & bits by Sunex, possibly the smallest ratchet I've ever seen, pinkie finger size. Bought it from a MAC truck, Cute aluminum box too, has a clear lid. I'll dig out a pic this weekend.

Almost all my impact sockets are made by thm and some pliers. Used daily for 7 years as a pro no issues never warranties one yet either. Can't beat them for the money.

Got all new 3/8 impact sockets except shallow metric a couple weeks ago and they are comparable to my snap on metric shallow. Decided to go ahead and get some stubby metric wrenches, love them appear to be good quality, stubby so its not like I'm going to break one.

i have large combo wrenches(1 1/2-2"), stubbies in SAE and metric, angle wrenches in SAE up to 1 1/4, and 3/8 impact socket set shallow/deep SAE/metric. all have been perfectly fine. not as nice as the higher end brands but work great for the price.

1st post and complaining comes off a little like a troll in most forums.
