Looks a lot like the HF unit. I have the HF one and had a defective one.at first. Second one has lasted 2 years at this point. I did pay more for the HF unit. For the money its worth a try. If you are crimping 8awg and larger this type of tool is a necessity. I use mine for wire upgrades from.battery to Alternator and power wire in high powered audio systems. For one year I used it every day and it was worth the money

I've always used the type that you whack with a hammer. Perhaps your needs exceed this type, but if they do I'd be looking at spending more money than that thing costs.

Reviews for some of the ones linked under it seemed pretty good for the most part. For the money, can't really go wrong unless you get a defective one. I'll find out, just ordered it haha.

Here's my experience with the Harbor Freight version:

Now, if the crimper will work (and not fail after 4 months of light use), then it is well worth the money. That being said, I do believe it would be better to go for the 16 ton version, which you can get off eBay for the same price shipped as the HF model in the store( there's a link to it in the thread above).

The 8 ton will be fine for most uses, but I'd still recommend the 16 ton version.

I've watched all his videos and this guy is the man when it comes to car audio. I'm pretty sure he uses the crimper in question, watch the video and see.

I have a very fancy hydraulic crimper that I rarely use because I do not crimp large wires daily and do not encounter very large wire sizes. A good mechanical one is adequate and is much faster to use.

I have a mechanical ez red cable crimper and it was at least double the price of the hydraulic ones shown. The ez red was still almost half the price of any other "good" mechanical one. It has crimped many cables, but I had to do a little modifying to get the unit to hold up. The piviot pits were not strong enough and would bend after several uses. A little work and it is held together with 3/8"/grade 8 bolts.
