Most of my tools are craftsman usa that I've had for years, plus a combination of snap on and husky wrenches. I'm starting to outgrow my performax 26 inch combo, plus I absolutely loathe the drawer detent on that thing. I've walked into HF several times but can never talk myself into bringing the 44 inch home. I'd rather have the latch style drawers, plus I don't really like the feel of the HF boxes for some reason.
I did go back to menards while I was out earlier. First and foremost, those plastic end caps slide right off, leaving only an unobtrusive bracket on the front of the box that I can easily live with. Construction looks extremely similar to the 56 inch masterforce, only differences I could find are that the 57 inch drawers have a 90 degree lip at the top for added strength, while the 56 inch drawers are simply straight. Drawer slides looked identical and are full extension. The casters are also different on the 57 inch box. There are only 4 vs 6 on the 56 inch, but the 57 is still rated for 2000 lbs total weight. I didn't think to take measurments, but with the plastic corners adding ~1.5 inches to either side, I'd guess the actual box width to be 53-54 inches. Fairly standard 18-20 inch depth, 3-4 inches shorter height to accommodate for the loss of the 2 shallow drawers.
Also saw the 72 inch montezuma for 499 and 36 inch for 349. Drawer layout is terrible on the 72 and the 36 has auto return drawer detent like the performax, plus is too small for what I'd want.
I'm thinking it over right now. I'd love to have the 57 inch box, but the cheap *** in me keeps trying to talk me into just getting the 44 inch HF and saving $200+
