Wife and I picked up a free gas grill from the in laws. The thing still works but sort of looks like ****. I was thinking about gutted the base and sides and just keeping the main grill part and building the rest. I'm a pretty decent fabricator but I dont really have any idea how I want it to look yet. Just thinking a tube frame on some heavy duty casters. Maybe toss in some gusset w/ dimples for looks. Basically a welding table w/ a grill instead of a table top. Sounds pretty boring though so I'm looking for some creative ideas. What do you guys got?

Here is one I fabbed from 1/8" steel, about thirty years ago, still in use and you can see it has many miles on it.

I started with a shop made burner, in the pictures it has a manufactured one that was on clearance.

Be sure you leave enough space for two tanks (I didn't) and put a heat shield in there to protect them from the high temperature.

Mine is a piece of 18Ga. that swings on chains.

If you need to make burners look here:

Not looking to make the burners, planning on re-using the whole grill part of the BBQ and just building a base/stand to hold it, but thanks for the links.

Spent the last hour on google (images) trying to get inspired and the best I saw was this...

To me the most important part is "how good does it cook". I prefer cast iron grids, and burners that provide even heat that is reliably adjustable to permit regular grilling to slow cooking. No hot spots, no rusty grids, no flaking porcelain grids. If your grill doesn't provide that, or can't be modified to provide that, don't waste your money on it.

I put the bucket from a front loader that bit the dust on cinder blocks in the front yard. I welded in some expanded wire for the steaks and brots. 7 feet of open grilling pleasure!

Does this mean I'm a red neck?
