There was a thread started a couple weeks ago about the same topic. A few of us have built them. Check out Jeremy Schmidt's plans.

I have resisted the urge to build a belt grinder, so far. I found a good Porter Cable unit in a second-hand store, it was $15.
I have subscribed to a You Tube channel that shows a very skilled young guy building his belt grinder. This is a must watch.

I've been collecting ideas in my head with intentions of building one myself. Haven't collected wheels just yet.

Main thing I have gathered is try to avoid welding on the direct frame holding the opposing wheels because it is extremely hard to account for shrinkage, thus causing slight alignment issues. Throes a wrench in my plans to weld the whole thing together....

You are overthinking the project. You had better come up with a beter excuse for not doing the project than this.
Watch the video, again

I've watched that video a number of times. It gets brought up in every 2" belt grinder thread on many forums.

I don't think I made any excuses. I have absolutely no reason to rush building one.

I don't even need it.

If you build one then be very careful with layout of holes. Center punch and drill press might work in the hands of the ocd but if your assembly is tweaked then you will likely have an issue with tracking. Milling machine and dro would likely have better results.

Here it is, was less motor, and table I paid $5.00 for and rigged it.
Made the belt guard out of a few old cans and plywood.
Not the best picture.
