I have a small thing that I need powdercoated and all the local places won't mess with you with small stuff. Plus, I'd trust someone on here to do the proper masking. Anyone?

We used to have a long-time member with his own PC biz. I think he went under. His website went down, and a long sought-after pipe wrench I found for one of my tool boards is stuck in his garage or basement or somewhere that I will never see again.

This is a very true statement.

This wouldnt happen to be BULL that used to post on NEMS would it. Im also in Ma and if you want to PM me the info on the shop that closed I might be able to off some insight on what happened and maybe help you get your wrench back.

Yep, that's me. I haven't been on that site in ages.

The guy with my wrench was a member here down in Florida, not anyone local. He offered to PC my wrench for free, and I sent it to him. ****. Then they both disappeared.

No kidding small world. I thought i remembered your sig from over there.

I enjoyed a few of the folks over there, but the general atmosphere is a bit...I dunno...rough. It's friendlier here.

Your name over there was "Ibuildmyown" wasn't it? Are you one of the Mustang guys?

Glad you decided to start posting. Hope it continues.

On an off topic note I love that Avatar.
Thanks! This is kind of a hijack (and kind of long), but an interesting story regarding my avatar (and it's my thread anyway)...

Background: My father was a helicopter pilot in the Army for 33 years. He did two year-long tours in Vietnam. He is more decorated than anyone I know in the miltary today (55 air medals, a couple DFCs and a few others) and I will always look up to him as a military aviator and an officer.

Anyway, in Vietnam, nose art on the helos was minimal, so a lot of the pilots painted stuff on their helmets. Dad painted Snoopy flying on his doghouse on the back of his helmet.

Well, no big deal. End of story...until the mid 1980s.

One of my mom's best friends from childhood finally got married (in her 40s) and mom and dad went to have dinner with mom's friend and meet her new husband (we'll call him Bob since I don't remember his name) for the first time. It had been a while since mom and her frind had talked, so the dinner conversation was mostly them. Also, my father very rarely talks about Vietnam...and on the rare occasion he does, you have to drag it out of him. So, I'm not sure how it came up in conversation but Bob was in the marines and did a tour in Vietnam. The tour dates were traded and they found out that they overlapped about a month. Regardless, the chances of them running into each other were slim-to-none since Bob was in the marines and dad was in the army. But, Bob said he was on a helo one time. His platoon had been shot up and Bob had been shot. He remembers the helo coming in, landing and somebody threw Bob onto the helo as they were still taking fire. He said that the only thing he remembers before passing out was looking up and seeing Snoopy on the doghouse on the back of the pilot's helmet.

So, I've kind of adopted the Snoopy on his doghouse for myself when I fly.

What part of okc are you in? I get my stuff coated at superior coatings off waterloo and i-35. They do a lot of small stuff too. They do a bunch of stuff for a guy out of Cresent (IIFRC) that does custom metal cutting( saw some switch and plug plates he made with a horse/western motif) They coat rims and hubs for me that I build and sell for HD's. Good people

I live up in edmond, but work at the base, so anywhere in between would be convenient.

Last time I uesed Jet Hot instead of getting things powder coated as I felt it was a better finish and easier to clean.

On an off topic note I love that Avatar.

Curious as to what jet hot was, I did a Google search and went to site named jet-hot which was the first hit return. Bad bad things happened at that point and I just sent the last hour and a half removing trojans.

Not sure if it was the site of something else but just wanted to give a heads up.

Yeah if you live on the south side of edmond or south west it is kind of a pita to get from one side to the other, I live near gallardia and the shop where I keep my tools is by Oak tree so I usually just stay to the west to go to the north side or circle around using the interstate and turnpike.

powder is actually pretty easy to do, you could get a kit and do it yourself. The only warning is that its addictive and pretty soon you will have a big oven, booth and all the goodies just for a coating a few parts :)

I actually started doing it on the side for people but stopped some time ago as I prefer to work on my parts then other peoples parts.

I do powder coating. You're welcome to contact me via PM if your parts are small enough to be shipped affordably back and forth to Texas. I'm not about to shut up shop or go anywhere either. I've been at it a long time.

Some of my work:

Nice work! Is that your dually? I've got one that body style too that I'm putting a 4-71 Detroit Diesel in. Anyway, I'll be PMing you shortly.

Yes sir, that's my dually. I'm doing a full frame off restoration on it as my time allows. If you looked at my blog, be sure and check the previous pages too. It goes back a lot of pages if you click on the "previous" button at the bottom of each page.

Let me know about what kind of work you need done. I've done a lot of mail order powder coating work in the past. My screen name over on the chevy truck board is Tx Firefighter.
