I got a 1/4" kit Plomb today and about 1/2 of them are Walden Worcester pieces.. know as much as alloy artifacts told me, but I don't really have a need for them. Keeping for now (saying that so nobody things this is a FS thread)

More of a "anyone care enough about them that I might make a FS thread"

All I know is what is on AA. Started in 1906 as Walden, then Walden Worcester, and then Stevens Walden. Went out of business in the 1990s.

At the flea market I have seen Walden Worcester and Stevens Walden stuff. A socket here, a wrench there. I almost bought a Walden Worcester female 1/2" ratchet a few months ago.

Bought 2 Walden Worcester sockets because they were the weird sizes, 19/32" and 21/32".

Also bought this 3/8" round head. It is not old and just has Walden on it. I guess by the time the company went out of business it had reverted back to just Walden. Saw the same style in a 1/4" breaker bar but it had initials and the guy wanted too much. Same the same style in a 3/8" flex but the pin for the head had broken and was replaced by a bolt.

I've got a few misc Walden sockets I'd make available to anyone with a jones for them.

There are many other good quality USA tools without a known collector base - P&S, Thorsen, Blackhawk, Action, Giller, Armstrong, Wards, Fleet, Wright and S-K. Seems if it isn't Snap-on, Mac, Matco, Bonney, Proto or Plomb, no one wants individual pieces. If it isn't a complete set, can't get anyone interested in these.

Suggest anyone with an interest add same to his profile. Can we search a profile to find a Walden collector?

thnx, jack vines

That ebay Walden Worcester set started at $49.95 and sold for $621.00. Just 2 bidders, bidding against each other.

Think I will be paying closer attention to Walden stuff at the local flea market.

This morning at the flea there was a new guy with a bunch of very old stuff. Someone had died. He had an old Walden Worcester breaker 1/2" bar in great shape, but the ball and spring were missing or I would have bought it.

Those two often go back and forth like that. I am friends with one of the bidders, and know who the underbidder is, but dont chat with him. Im just glad that they dont go after snap on tools with that kind of aggression!

Its usually the complete (or semi-complete) set that makes something go so high. Just like with vintage snap on, its getting the original metal case thats challenging. The rarest tools are generally not the ones that came in sets (but the specialty or luxury tools that didnt can bring a lot of money), so the tools outside of the box may not be worth a lot, but the box is where the money is at.

I'm not a collector by any means, but would like to share this double-sided socket wrench:

I am a collector of the bolded brands. Well, a collector with shallow pockets, unlike the bidders of that Walden socket set:spit:

Ugghhh... I'm going to be sick... Then I am going to the pawn shop tomorrow where I saw a Complete whole WW collection in a tin box.... I passed on it for $39.00 about 2 months ago.

My gut told me to buy it, my brain overrode the decision....

The set that sold so high, its a very very rare set, most of walden tools sell very cheap.
Its like the mossberg tools, they sell cheap, but the mossberg pliers are very rare, only a few known examples.

This Hinsdale set was at the flea market this morning. Did not see anyone looking at it but me. Had some Walden stuff in the box.

Tell those 2 buyers they should switch to Hinsdale and make me rich....

I do collect tools plausible of having been part of a military General Mechanics tool set.
The Walden 1/4 drive set was among tools supplied to the military.
So I did buy a set on ebay, and will try to complete it.
At times, I have friends who buy for me on your side of the ocean, and then ship to me in bulk.
Anyone aware of the aspect of a war time Walden ratchet, 1/4" drive?

Today at the local flea market it was this 1/2" Walden. Paid $2.

Primative ratchet. 25 teeth rather than the usual 24 you see on old ratchets of that era

I'd gladly double your money!

That is a good looking ratchet. And I do have sockets to go with it!

If anybody happens to have a Walden 1/4"dr 5/16 socket I'm in need of one for the set I posted in this thread. The one in the set isn't a Walden, just a no-name one somebody threw in the box.

Ran across this thread while looking for info on Walden, I don't really collect Walden stuff but I have an old set. The interesting thing in this set is the extension is a double male (stamped Walden) and a double female adapter (also stamped Walden), here's a pic:

I just stumbled onto one Hinsdale socket at a flea market. I bought it because I had never heard of the brand. Now why do I do things like that????

I have a couple of sets of vintage Hinsdale sockets....hex and 1/2" square drive. I believe they were made in Hinsdale Illinois along with wrenches and other tools in the 20's and on. Quality stuff for the period and somewhat collectable. There's some info on the Alloy Artifacts website.

When I see the double male extensions at the flea market I buy them because I have a few female ratchets. Same for the drive plugs.

My problem is that I have p&s,Walden,action,wards,...But then I start to lose focus on the tools that interest me!

It is so hard too many tool companies so for now I am trying my best to collect only a few of the tool companies products. Darn Monte for showing his incredible plier collection you have me hook line and sinker.
