Laughing at the title- my wife and I can't think of a name to describe it.

Anyone have any idea what it is

I bought this a few years ago at a cool old used tool store.

It is extremely heavy and built like a tank. The drawers are on metal wheels, ball bearings, metal rails..but lift right out.

They had every drawer loaded with tools- one full of vicegrips, one full of ratchets, one full of hammers, etc. I was amazed at how easily they opened and closed with all the weight in them- no flex at all.

US gov't file cabinet...still used in many military and older installations. Originally used in the office, when orders and such were still written on paper. The drawers were about the size of a 8.5x11" sheet folded in half, which the military used a lot. Card stock of that same size was used for performance, grades, pay and the like.

They are sturdy and have found a new life in areas where shiny, name branded chests are more desirable, but one is on a budget.

I would call it a card file, if the drawers were a little smaller (meant to file forms printed on card stock). If it were a little smaller, it would have been used for microfiche too.

Interesting. I've never seen one with quite that large of a drawer.

Very cool.
