First Im talking about like 26" cabinets not like handheld boxes I keep one in my closet one in my living room and one is my bedroom.
I think they are better furniture than that cheap presswood stuff you get now a days. I love it,,, or maybe im just addicted to tools.

What do you guys think?

I think it would not go over too well if I tried to use toolboxes around the house. Not sure I would want to either but to each his own.

If it was a HF box, I'd sure as heck air it out for about a year.

I have an old Snap-On top box on a shelf in the back of my kitchen. I keep most of my home hand tools in it since my current rental doesn't have a real garage (just a dirt floor shed). I have a little desk sitting next to it for doing air tool rebuilding.

I have one 26" roll cab that I keep in the house. It's in the utillity room with the
washing machine and an extra freezer. Good place to keep all the house tools
I might need, as all my other boxes are kept in the locked garage, with access
only from the front door.

Not sure about keeping one the bedroom, but if you like it... Why not.

A friend uses cman toolboxes in his sons room as furniture, goes with the race car bed

My grandmother used a cman grip latch bb toolbox in her closet for her jewelry. We left the wheels off and put a couple of screws in it to attach it to the wall

the main reason I keep toolboxes in the house is because
1. They are sturdy
2. They dont break very easily
3. They can be locked
4. They look badass a hell

Some guy was using a large SO top box (the ones without the lid) as a coffee table base and that was pretty cool.

LOLZ.

Work tools and boxes in the basement. HER chest in the bedroom. Boom!!!!

Aside from having to keep my 26" roll chest in my dining room for a week once I rescued it from a former workplace and employees breaking into it lasted a week there and then had to go.

In the basement.

It's bad enough to keep tools on half done jobs around in the house if you work that way.
Boxes? No way.

Especially with kids.

Give a toddler a "misplaced" 15" Snap-On adjustable wrench and you'll see $3000 worth of electronics carnage in around 5 minutes or so . BTDT.

It depends...how well do you like the ladies? Toolboxes in the house are a no no in my world, and that was before I got married. That Whalen MIGHT fly as a kitchen workstation...but that's about it.

As for furniture...Craigslist...patience and knowledge. Also consignment shops are great for real furniture. Don't forget about Salvation Army and Goodwill either. One bit of advice on both of those places, go to the nice parts of town and their 2nd hand stores. The guy in the hood certainly isn't donating his Nortake china (which I picked up an entire 8 pc set of for $19.99), he's donating his worn out pressboard furniture. Salvation Army ususally has better deals, but you have to search through the piles of **** to get to it. Goodwill is much more organized, but they tend to overvalue some things.

I'm designing our kitchen using Lista/Vidmar/Lyon drawer system...(do the math and it's cheaper than high grade cabinets, will outlast them, and you can change the design instantly with 3M vinyl wrap-color or wood grain)

But for now I have a Kennedy FAK in my gear room, and a Snappy KR for my socks/undies/t-shirts.

I have a 520 Kennedy in the house for leather working tools and SWMBO has a wood top box under her desk for her "stuff". Nothing used as furniture though.

And the Kitchen table is often half covered with new yard sale acquisitions. she's never complained...

No, you can't have her, I found her first...

I tried convincing the girlfriend to let me use them in the bedroom for drawers for my clothes...needless to say I got the look we have all received before and she just shook her head at me and my guess would be re-evaluated her decision dating me...

Does the back porch count? I put a plastic hand box, large, there for wife's garden tools, at least the ones short enough to fit in. Box wont rust and tools wont either.

I have a 3 drawer Snap On box from the '70s in the living room. It's been repainted and is in immaculate shape. Just can't figure out where to put it as there's no room in the garage and it houses collector tools anyway.

I built my wife a "crafts room" a few yr. back, and she doesn't really use it. So I stole some room in there and put my main, 56" rolling box in there and keep most of my tools in it. Then there is the old 26" three-stack Waterloo in the attached greenhouse with various greenhouse tools in it. Then there is another old rolling cab out in the tool shed with other tools I don't use often plus supplies for the weed whacker and acetylene torch stuff and so on. So, three boxes in three places, two of them inside the home. [I only have a carport, so security is a problem for leaving the ToolVault 56" outside....].

Told my wife I was stealing back some room from her, she said, go for it. I gave her a couple drawers for her crafts tools, she's happy.

Here is the woman that lets me keep my tool chest in the house. We have been married 31 years.

You can absolutely feel the love in this post, and after 31 years still burning bright.

Gotta say, it's kinda nice to see it. Hat's off to you Mr. MacTexas me old fella.

i do have a mismatched 26" stack (SO, lyon, CM) downstairs for DIY "supplies"

wife has a couple of old carpenters tool boxes around for decoration, one is filled with my dads old wooden level, a brace & bits, and a couple of his old hand planes.

guess they are considered antiques, i'm 55 and the tools have been around as long as i can remember.
i was told he worked as a carpenter for a short time after he was discharged from the service in '45 and before he went to welding school in the early 50's.

Yes we do keep tool boxes around the house. I have 10 of them here in my garage in California and more on the farm in Indiana. I have 11 file cabinets and cabinets full of tools and a few hundred that I have no place to put at the moment. I have 3 huge sheds full of file cabinets full of construction tools. I have so many small tool boxes I have no clue as to the number. Do we keep tool boxes at home. LOL That is a hoot for a heading.

One of the TV shows show them using tool chest and boxes for household furniture. I did it with my sons 40 years ago. Nothing new. Now they have them in all colours and My granddaughter has a pink one in her room for all her small toys.

I had a small Wilton set on the kitchen counter for a week or so. Actually came in handy a couple times being there. Couldn't convince my girlfriend to let me mount it however...

Currently all I have inside is an old Cman top box in the basement. I plan on moving a 26" roller down there shortly. I could use some more around though as I literally have tools everywhere. I have a coworker who has a couple cabinets in his son's bedroom for dressers. Already got the girlfriend's approval to do that when we have kids.

I dont need her approval my kids WILL grow up with tool boxes ALL around the house. My girlfriend likes them because they are metal so she can put magnets on them ^_^
