Anyone Know Anything About A Toolkraft Drill Press?

Getting ready to clean out Mom's garage and move some things of my Dad's into my workshop. He had a floor standing Toolkraft drill press that I'd like to know more about. He purchased it in March of 1984.

Here's the specs:

Toolkraft Model 4413
12 3/4"
5 Speeds (530 - 3022)
Chuck to Column = 6-3/8"
Spindle Travel = 3-5/16"
Chuck Capacity = 0-1/2"
Column Diameter = 2-7/8"
Bearings = Ball

I forgot to get the nameplate info from the motor the last time I was there. The owners manual for the drill press shows the motor to be a 1/3 HP Motor (Model 1907). Dad had a Westinghouse Instruction Leaflet (#2800 & dated June 1977) tucked into the owners manual. The leaflet is for "General Purpose & Specialty Motors (1/20 through 5 HP, NEMA 42, 48, 56, & 140 Frame Sizes).

Appreciate any info on this drill press or on Toolkraft in general. If this is a decent drill press, I'll keep it and add it to my shop.

Thanks for the help.

Pics: These are not pictures of my Dad's drill press but are pics I found online of the same model.

It's a common Asian import drill press, probably Taiwan. Not really a bad machine, keep it and use it, if it does what you need fine, if it doesn't you'll have a better idea of what to look for in your next drill press.

Thanks. I was guessing Asian built as well. I'm leaning toward keeping it unless I hear from enough people that it's not a good machine. Not worth the round trip if it's junk. I do know it was used very little and so should be in near new condition. May need a new belt by this point in time due to deterioration.

If you have no drill press then that is an acceptable one. There are thousands of those style out there making holes every day. Only when your skill set improves will you find the limitations of that machine. Sounds like your making the trip anyway so I'd say grab it.

Wasn't Toolcraft a Montgomery Ward brand?

Quite possible. The odds are good that Dad got it from Montgomery Ward. Small town with Sears and Wards catalog stores. He likely got it from one of the two and we know it didn't come from Sears.

Probably multiple round trips will be made. Dad's garage was full of good stuff and it'll be a major undertaking to clean it out. Just didn't know much about the drill press. Sounds like it's worth keeping for awhile at least.

I know this is an OLD thread but i have one of these and cannot for the life of me figure out how to remove the chuck. No keyway and I've beat on it as much as i feel comfortable doing without breaking something. Anyone got a hook up on a manual or some advice. Appears to have. Collar that may or may not be threaded.

The Jacobs taper chuck on my Taiwan made drill press is mounted on a Morse tapered spindle, I drive a tapered drift into the slot on the quill to remove it.

I'm new to working on this kind of machine. You mean a pin between the chuck and collar? There is no "slot" on shaft that extends down is what i think you mean by the quill. Am i wrong on my parts?

Looks like wedges may come into play, between the chuck and the metal collar above.

Try searching f the vintage forum for those ideas first, then try in the general forum. Don’t use toolkraft tho, many other DP had that style.
