I have recently retrofitted a 30 gal craftsman tank with a HF twin cylinder 145psi 5hp pump and am using a 6 hp 110v 15.5amp 3750rpm motor. Using a 4.5"pulley on motor and 14.5" pulley on pump. I have it running and working until it hits around 70 to 80 psi then it pops the main 20 amp electrical panel breaker. I have it stepped down from 3/4" line to 1/2" to go into the tank with a new 1/2" check valve/unloader. Now my question to you is why is it popping the breaker? The motor is not getting hot nor is any of the electrical connections. I am pretty sure that the motor is to small for the pump and if so any recommendations on a motor size? If you think the motor is ok what do you think the problem is? I am stumped and need opinions and help.
Thank you all,
Tom
