First off everything in my garage is Craftsman, cabinets, chests, workbench, aircompressor, so I like to keep it all a matched set as I buy each piece.

I am currently looking at the chest in the link below and though it is on sale I still hate paying that much for it. So the question is does anyone know of any good coupons I could use on this? Or maybe someone knows if it will be on a big memorial day sale or something? Just figured I would toss this out there and maybe I will get lucky and save afew bucks...:dunno:

You could try searsoutlet.com It lists all the refurb, open box, store demo etc and are usually 40% or more off list. May not have it in your area though, its hit or miss.

Get the Harbor Freight 13-drawer unit, remove the US General emblem, and slap a Craftsman label on it.

Up here in Canada, if you ask the sales people in the tool dept. they have always checked on their computer for any upcoming sales! Give it a try.

I just sold the griplatch version on Craig's for $400. I checked the new price one day and it was $700+. A couple days later it was on sale for $450. The guy that bought it called the first time and said he wanted it and would pick it up on the weekend. He was also following the price and called to cancel. Too far to drive for $50. He missed the sale and picked mine up 2 days later. It's a **** shoot.

Don't pay $500 for that tool box you will be disappointed. Go to the store and play with them. At min I would get the 50# drawer limited griplatch. It will probably go on sale here in the next month for Fathers Day.

Also I agree about putting a Craftsman emblem on another model if you really want them to match. I have an International I bought used and they are sold under the Craftsman brand as well just more money.

I bet this will be half off with the Craftsman club flyers around then:

since he has everything craftsman, i doubt he will be disappointed. some people arent hard on their stuff like a lot of us are.

as for the OP post. i know they used to put pretty much all their boxes on sale for black friday, at massive discounts. i picked up a 26" box combo for pretty cheap 3 or 4 years ago. im not sure they do this anymore, but its an idea. a lot of times they were more like 45-50% of list price for a couple hours.

I know that they normally put this chest and the matching top box on sale for 50% off a couple times a year. I picked up the combo for around $700 a couple years back. If your not in a hurry I would just wait for it to go on sale.

Thanks for all of the grea input guys! If it was just up to me I would wait and find a great price, but the wife wants to get it for me for our aniversery and well the fact she came up with this idea on her own means I need to encourage :) Current price of $515 doesn't sound to bad, and know a guy that works for sears doing HVAC and can get another 10% off so sounds like I will be about craigslist prices then.

I am curious what people need super heavy duty tool boxes for though... Do you climb on them? I load mine down and never have a problem? Or maybe I just think I load mine down :)

There is no way that I would pay that much for a box with quiet glide slides. Ball bearing slides or go home.

You can google "sears coupon codes" you may find one that saves you a few bucks.

I bought the ball bearing version of this box last fall for $454, online only but I had to pick it up in the store. Just keep watching online for better deals.

Make an account with Sears online, then put a price watch on it. Last time they had the Quiet Glides on sale, it was about $150 under that price. I almost bought another 40" because it was so damn cheap. Mine are all red though, so the red/black would throw off the look LOL. And I paid $100 less than that about 5 years ago. That "regular price $649" is BS too - wasn't that long ago you could buy top and bottom QG 40" set for around that. And yes to above - have seen the ball bearing units cheaper than the QG units. Put a watch on both. I watched for the QG all red side cabinet for about 6 months before I bought - got it for under $200 out the door.

That color and lay out is a very common older style, I would look on Craigslist and refinish it if you have to. That box, but with ball bearing slides and three matching 26" boxes welded sided to side for a home made 12 drawer 78" on a metal frame with casters sold for I think $600 in the St. Louis Craigslist recently.
