Not sure if it's just my computer but I can't click on the picture to enlarge it to see the details.

When I squint at the tiny pic it almost looks like a spring compressor clamp for a bear trap. The old 15s and 6s couldn't be set any other way.

It is a double headed c-clamp. The two heads help you achieve the same total clamping force as a regular c-clamp, but it spreads the force out over twice the surface area so you are less likely to dent or damage a softer wood for instance when gluing and clamping.

The clamp you have is nicer than most of the ones made today, because the newer ones usually only still have a single round end on the threaded screw (instead of the double head yours has) which can end up defeating the purpose. I attached a picture of the newer style that is the most common so you can see what I mean.

With a 3 point contact it would eliminate the tendency for the top threaded collar to bend sideways under pressure (how many bent "C" clamps have you seen). The disadvantage is you need more room to locate the double footprint on the bottom of your work.

I wonder if anyone has made them with 3 feet on the bottom to eliminate the possibility of the threaded collar bending fore + aft as well?
