Help! I bought an estate full of tools, they were auto body and blacksmithing, but this odd item was included. It's about 7" long, and solid brass. Any idea what it is or could be used for? Thanks in advance.

Gotta be SOMEONE out there that knows...it has me stumped as well, and I know a whole lot about tools!

I'm going to say some type of production tool. The flat pad just begs to be used for grabbing a sheet of 'something' and moving it.

The other end? The lack of wear or marks suggest it was rarely used....might be some type of 'alignment' head?

being brass, I would guess it is used in a "no spark" environment. Maybe some type of barrel monkey? :headscrat
Maybe a Marine application?

All interesting, perhaps even close, but no cigar, I'm afraid.

Considering it has casting lines....I'm guessing a lot of them were made

AD...It might help to know your location....which would clue us in to the type of industry in the area....

Not often everyone is stumped:shocking::shocking:

Not so fast! Only 16 or so folks posted up.

I've never seen anything automotive related like it and there's some funky antique auto tools out there. I like the direction of some sort of production tool.

It looks like a wedge or brace for holding a panel against a wall while attaching it. The square pad is the base and the vertical pad just above it is where one would kick or tap it into position. That' my swag (scientific wild assed guess) anyway.

I think you need to take it to the antiques road show lol. I'm very curious. If it IS brass, one would guess it would be a non sparking tool. I can't help but think it's some kind of pattern or alignment tool for production, but I'm probably way off..

You may never know. Blacksmiths make most of their own tools.
Likely a one of a kind for... who knows what they were working on.

Oh, well. Thanks anyway, guys, apparently it is doomed to remain a perpetual mystery!
