Here's one of my favorites: Made by Birdsill Holly, ca. 1852, America's first successful plane maker. ;)

The flightline, seen from the left side, and from the right side.

Below, literally, is the lair of the Veritas BU Jointer.

In the Kobalt tool rollaway lurks a pair of Rabbet planes and a turn of the century (21st) Stanley #7.

There are a few additional planes not captured in these pics.

Here are mine, I got them from my dad about a year ago when they were moving. He had them in the "throw away" pile. Know nothing about them and haven't had a chance to use them yet.

Lots of eye candy here. I am enjoying the pictures. If you ever put some of these nice planes to work, please post your results on the Woodworking 101 thread. There are many eyes over there. Thanks.

I like these when they work. I can never seem to keep them sharp/sharpen them correctly. When they work they are real handy.

The romantic hills of central Umbria, Italy,
It took me a LOT of practice (and a lot of scrap lumber, even if it didn't start that way) to where I was anywhere good using one... I still have a couple pre-war Stanleys my granddad had... and use them. I also had a couple that (I think) were for making moulding - probably older than sin, both the blade and floor plate had matching curves in it - - I eventually horse traded them off (could never get them to do anything other than make firewood scraps), but kinda wish I hadn't now...

Here is the current fleet. Mostly Type 15 Stanley's with a few moderns thrown in. Only one I'm missing that I really need is a nice shoulder plane. Have been trying to decide between the Veritas Medium and the Lie Nielsen medium.

Hey Steve,

Nice looking collection! As far as shoulder planes go, if you're looking for something current, I'm a fan of the Lie-Nielsen. If you're going old school, my favorite is a Stanley 92, followed by a Stanley 93. On bigger joints, I'll also use a Sargent 507, or even a router plane. Anyway, I very recently bought Lie-Nielsen's version of the Sargent 507. I'm just waiting for it to be delivered. I've had my eye on that plane for a year or so, and finally tried it out at a L-N tool event near my house. Like most L-N tools, it was top notch.

I have a Stanley #5C which I restored and use a lot. I gave my old Stanley L/A block to my son for doing a few projects and have been looking at a couple different Veritas L/A Blocks for purchasing.
Motoretro

I have vintage 3C, 4C and 5C Stanley planes. Before I bought a new LA block plane, I'd look for a clean vintage Stanley.
