For about 10 years I’ve had the vision of building a bench top CNC brake. The idea came to me after building a huge H-Frame hydraulic press that we used as a press brake. Maybe something in the 15” wide range able to brake of off both ends. Designed to use a 3 or 4” 4-way die and goose neck die.

Anyone ever DIY a press brake before?

CNC would drive a porportional hydraulic valve and use encoders or linear scales for feedback.
Betting if you talked to the people at Mach CNC they probably have done this sort of thing.
CNC press brakes are common in industrial settings

Not to rain on your parade but IMO a 15" CNC press brake is a waste of time and money. You will spend several $1000's to have a machine that won't be any better (other than accuracy) then a few hundred dollar swag offroad kit. If you want a CNC press brake build or buy one no smaller then 3'. A small press brake is a tool were you always wish it was bigger.

There was a guy in Pirate 4x4 about ten years ago making a cnc press brake. He made it all.

I followed along years ago, amazing build and skill especially on the lathe. I was amazed them at he actually made the hydraulic cylinders. This was one of the first inspirations to me wanting to build one...but also a build that seemed nearly impossible to duplicate. Thanks for bringing this one up, I’m going to read through it again.

I'd be happy as hell if someone shared detailed plans for just a CNC programmable Back Gauge. No idea why 'store bought' back gauges cost $5000 and up.

Think a simple one would be fairly easy wouldn’t it? Maybe I’m over simplifying it in my head.
