Like the title says, does anyone make their own hoses? If so, I’m curious what brand you use and why you went with that brand.

At the shop where I work we make them. I couldn't imagine being a diyer and being able to justify the cost of that! Maybe if you had alot of equipment you were working on all the time, but to just have the supplies for your own personal use I could never justify that cost!

What brand of hose and fitting do you use?
I have enough equipment to justify the cost, plus being able to make hoses for all the local guys would be a huge plus.
At this point I'm researching different brands trying to figure out which one to go with, it seems like it's one of them things that once you invest with one brand you're pretty much stuck with it I want to make the right choice the first time.

We use Parker hose and fittings. I work for an equipment rental company, so many times we don't have time to wait for hoses. Down time ultimately costs us too much money due to the possibility of costing the rental of that machine. We have around 8 service trucks at our branch that are stocked with hose, fittings, and portable crimper. The stock on our trucks is limited, usually only to repair something to get it off the jobsite and back to the shop for hose replacements. Very few of our road techs do much more than that.

I bought and installed Aeroquip in my 1940 Ford.. I used the stainless braid on the AC lines, power steering. brake-line flex hoses, fuel lines and transmission cooler lines. To help keep my fingers from bleeding, I bought KOOL TOOLS installation guides. One of the Aeroquip AC fittings was $156cad. Overall, it was less expensive to buy rolls of hose and cut to length myself. I must have $500++ in extra Aeroquip hose and fittings.
Would I do this again? I do not think so. It turned out, most of the hose is hidden. I have a hydraulic crimp tool for next time.
BTW, I bought a dedicated hose cut-off saw. JUST nuts.

We have a couple Eaton aeroquip crimpers at work. I believe fastenal stocks our hose ends/ fittings.

1 machine is a 1390, the other is a 1380. The 1390 is kinda hard to see the hose ends though is for the bigger 4 wire stuff. I've worked at a couple places with 1380's, they work great for and are very simple to use.

Most underground mining equipment uses straight JIC swivels with adapters to get the correct angle and thread. Buying a box of straight JIC swivel ends for each size hose and a bunch of adapters is the way to go.

We have a Weatherhead crimper, maybe use it a couple times a year. Last time was over Thanksgiving weekend to get a piece of equipment back up. If there weren't multiple hose stores in town plus the dealers that make hoses I'd probably use it more.

I have an old Dayco crimper. I bought it fairly cheap, and use it to repair pressure wash hoses and to make hydraulic hoses for my jeep. I honestly don’t know what brand of ends I use. I go to the supplier, tell them what i need, and they hand it to me.

I have a friend whose shop makes their own hoses, he does both screw-together and swaging methods. He sells/services pressure washers and is also a motorcycle shop. I've had him make brake/clutch lines for me.

I work for an Eaton/Aeroquip distributor in New England. We're able to give out ($1 yearly lease) machines, tooling, saw, cabinets as long as you'd do about 10k a year in fittings & hose. There's plenty of margin in the pricing for resellers. Initial buy-in for inventory is usually 4k to 8k for my customers.

discounthydraulichose is cheaper premade and shipped to my door than ordering parts from them and build myself. But they are who I buy my fittings and bulk hose from for NOW repairs.

I own and operate a repair business and we make hydraulic hose assemblies. You said you have enough equipment to justify the purchase possibility. I'm going to assume you farm or do excavation work. We make Weatherhead and NRP Jones. If all your going to make is common 2 wire assemblies with common ends ie- npt, o-ring, and JIC buy in won't be to hateful. But if your going to get into heavy equipment hoses you'll have to stock thousands of dollars of ends and hose to have the correct end on hand.
Also you said it would be nice to make hoses for other people, there's a catch to that, liability insurance. Something blows apart on a hose you made could cost you dearly.
Our company has been doing hydraulic repair for almost 50 years and I would hate to guess the money I have in inventory for hose and fittings and there's days I still don't have what I want and have to order.

Thank you for the reply I don't plan on going crazy with it from the start, I've been to enough hydraulic shops to see the amount of inventory they keep on hand and like you said still have to order stuff in sometimes. I'll add NRP Jones to the list of companies to look into, I'll also inquire about liability insurance I don't see that being to big of deal though

Thanks for the other replies as well it's all good info to have, I spoke with Gates the other day and it sounds like we might be able to make something happen with them but I've heard they make an excellent product but your going to pay for it.

Part of me want to get in with a company that isn't available locally just to have something different to offer, but at the same time say I go with Parker it opens up easy access to fittings locally.

I made hydraulic hoses for 40 years as a sideline business. I had the most massive inventory of Gates within a 50 mile radius of my shop. I found that it was more profitable to buy hose from Discount Hydraulic Hose than it was from Gates. I bought all of my hose through 1" 2 wire from them by the reel.

There is/was no compatability issue between brands; any hose with the same designation (such as C2AT or C5C) of a given brand is identical in size to any other brand. They crimp to the same specs.

I did very little with reusable fittings.

I believe the DHH hose is made by Semperit in Asia somewhere. I never once had a problem with it.

We have an Eaton Aeroquip machine at work and a Cat machine. For the Aeroquip we buy fittings through Applied industrial.

I've always wanted to make my own hydraulic hoses but it's been cost prohibitive and there's a few places around that will make hoses for me. The closest place will make a hose on Sunday for me if he's around.

I have a mixture of old and new equipment. I would have to buy at least 3, maybe 4 rolls of different size hoses, JIC, ORB, and flat faced fittings. I just assumed no matter how many fittings and hose sizes I had on hand, I still wouldn't have what I need for after hours repairs.

Shoot, I had a local shop make me up a specialty hose years ago. Can't remember the name. I wanted a 100 foot length of reinforced vinyl hose that would allow me to get water from a cooler supply line so I wouldn't have to run out a typical 3/4" garden hose. Worked really nice.
I think it was these people. maybe you hav a dealer local? They did it on the spot and it didn't flatten my wallet.

And I still have the hose!
