I've been researching the US General 44" rolling tool cabinet and found quite a few reviews. I also see they have a few issues, drawer detent's wearing out, locks breaking and wheels not holding up. Do any of you that own one have any modifications that you've done to repair or prevent damage?

SEARCH!!!!!!!!!! There must be 100 threads on this topic.

Two sentence synopsis for the lazy. A lot of us have them and like them, a lot of people think you must have a tool brand cabinet. Occasionally a slide has broken, but HF warranties new cabinets and sells parts cheap for older.

I would not know if my detents could wear out because first thing I did was remove every drawer and bend the ends of the slides straight. I did not like how the drawer would grab and make it harder to open. Nothing wrong with the function really, I just have no plans to move the box around my garage. Also, I took the wheels off and set the box on half inch plywood to keep it off the concrete. I have my work bench built over the top of the box. So, as for your concerns, I really can't help here but the box is great. I'm jealous of the the guys with the nice Snap-on boxes...you CAN tell the difference but for a home box like mine is I'm more afraid of having to move it one day than I am about it breaking down. I know others that have one and feel the same about the quality. Better than Craftsman, as good as many, not a nice as the best but overall a very good buy and I would buy another if I needed more space. (I have another box too of a different brand)

There really needs to a pop up when type in the thread title, " you may want to look at these threads". The journal is really turning into the same five topics over and over.
