The box for the $199 G70 says 8.0L engine (6.0L Diesel)

I heard good things about them, they would appear to be the way to go for passenger cars. However, I have the Dodge Ram Cummins Diesel, anybody know if they make one big enough for a diesel?

Since modern day diesel 2500-3500 trucks are dual battery maybe two packs would work one on each battery wouldn't guarantee it and I would pull your intake heater relay small wire off before turning the key on if it's cool outside cause those draw a ton

There's a reason. If I wanted to make our 7785 (650A) a real 1000A peak jumpstarter it would be a retail of around $290 and be almost twice the size. And that's using the latest space conservative stacked lithium ion polymer cells which legit micro jumper companies are moving away from and using the cylinder cell types like you'd find in a DeWalt or FUEL battery pack that won't experience thermal runaway after inflating and being exposed to oxygen.

If we just made our 7785 a $20 more expensive model we'd be able to up the battery capacity a little and peak amps maybe 50 or none. But hey, that's us. Maybe other brands with these crazy high numbers have a technology or a lithium battery plant making stuff that no one's heard of yet.

As you'll see in the next couple years, lithium battery (or even battery powered at all) jump starters will be old hat anyways.

Chris,
Any update to your analysis on fake 1000amp jump packs by Noco?

It's been 4 years, and lithium battery (or even battery powered at all) jump starters will not yet old hat, as you predicted. Or are they?

I am ordering another Noco 1000amp for $65 Cyber deal. I am a very satisfied customer, and the Noco has served me well. A great investment. I've even jumped co-workers cars over the years.

This is a good watch and test, but I just paid $40 for a midrange pack that should be fine for all of our cars. AAA tow guy I talked to worked the heck out of Harbor Freight, so I stick with the claim that any brand can have good or bad units.

I would suspect he was talking about the jump starters that work on high performance capacitors. I've seen the odd review on them and they seem to work well.

I love my noco's, I've had a GB70 going on exactly 2 years now in my service truck and it's still going strong. I regularly use it to light off diesels in the 7-8'ish liter range with poor batteries and start smaller stuff with no batteries for testing.

I had the top rated by Project Farm Audew model and it **** the bed sitting in my truck for less than a year. The problem with all of these units is that by them time you need them they don't work anymore. The superior technology is super capacitors as these have no batteries to die on you or that you need to recharge from time to time.

Here's my experience. I knew that my 94R/H7 AGM battery (amazing that Hyundai would put such a high end battery into a Sonata but they did) was on its last legs (a battery lasting five years in Phoenix is a world record believe me) as my Foxwell battery tester told me that it was only charging to 50% it's rated capacity. Since I knew this I put the jump pack into the truck for that day when the thing would finally die. When it died the jump pack was dead too - that sucked. Lucky for me my battery charger will also jump start a car. So I found a new battery at NAPA (the last 94R/H7 AGM battery NAPA had in Phoenix period) and bought and installed it for a mere $200.

What many may not know is that both the cost and availability of car batteries is presently a big problem. Covid-19 caused many people to park their cars for months at a time and because of this their batteries sulfated and died. There is a nationwide shortage of batteries (in particular AGM batteries) and the price of batteries has skyrocketed. The reason why that is there are only two sources of batteries in America. Johnson Controls, which controls 80% of the market and East Penn Manufacturing which has most of the other market share. Exide is a distant third. When you've got a semi-monopoly you can charge whatever you like when demand is high. That's currently the situation.

Someone posted one on the Lowe's hot deal thread last year. I got 4 @ $25ea. Kept one and gave the others away as gifts. I've used the one I have as a phone charger a bunch of times and jumped 4 wheelers and cars. So I am happy.

Most are made with li-ion batteries which self discharge, so if it sat in your truck without being recharged occasionally you very possibly ruined it. If you can find one made with Lifepo batteries then you will have better luck, they have an extremely low self discharge rate. They still need to be checked regularly.

One issue you run into on all (most is probably more accurate) li-ion batteries is that the battery management system (bms) will prevent recharging if they get too low, so even if the cells are not toast the bms won't allow it to charge. You can bypass the bms and get them to charge high enough for the bms to start over. I suspect most of these cheap chinese packs use a cheap bms that doesn't help the situation. I have a couple of these and never had to use them to jump a car but I keep them charged and they seem to work fine to do other battery related things.

What we do now is bring them in the house from time to time and use them like typical powerbanks to recharge phones etc, keeps them testing and cycled.

Mine had held a 100% charge for over a year. I was shocked at how good lithium ion holds charge.

Like anything else, PM usually saves the day.

I have a few NOCO units. Every once in a while I pull them out and charge them.

They have always worked for me. Only problem is trying to jump a dead dead dead battery.

Can't let them sit forever without a little juice I think.

Merry Christmas to all.

If the battery is dead dead, not taking any charge, maybe better off starting the car with it disconnected.

I bought a AnitGravity XP-10 in June of 2016. I can't remember the last time it was charged. This morning, one of our cars wouldn't start - it's getting cold, the car doesn't get driven much anymore and the Optima Yellow Top battery that is in it, is over 6 years old. Car started right up with the XP-10, well worth the money

The Optima yellow top has almost doubled in price since I bought it - they are not $275 on Amazon. I am going to pick up a $79 First Interstate from Costco. They are guaranteed for 3 years and for the same price as that yellow top, I could get 9 years worth out of them

I went through a bunch of gb150s... only buy from a gm dealer for noco, 3 year warranties. 1 year everyone else. My batteries bulged and case cracked twice. I had to buy another.

My last 150 will never charge over 25 percent... so that is when I bought another from a gm dealer.
