anyone own an outdated hunter alignment machine?

recently our hunter p111 alignment machine crapped out on us at work. we turn it off every afternoon. a few days ago it doesn't want to boot up. we reset the circuit breaker and still does nothing.

is there a power supply inside it separate from the monitor? we replaced the whole monitor assembly 2 years ago.

this machine has all and every update through 2005 then it became unsupported for software.

anything i should try?

not sure about your setup but at my work we have a wheel balancer from hunter that did this exact same thing. after weeks of hunter people trying to make it work they found out it needed some weird voltage and not the standard 240V

We have an old hunter machine sitting out back right now. We moved it outside this summer cause we were tired of looking at it. It still worked but one of the heads was taken to another store and we never got it back, so it is worthless to us. I can scrap some parts off of it if you need them. Its been rained on but its in a cabinet and its been fairly dry this summer.

And Ill have to double check its model number but I know its old. If your close you can come get the whole thing

We use a mid 80's hunter alignment machine. We got a good deal on it. It will randomly shut off, lock up, or quit working. In spite of this, It has paid for itself because we don't have to send trucks out to be aligned. We built heavy duty stands to handle heavier vehicles

there are 2 problems to this situation.

1. we own the monopoly of alignments in our area. all the shops send them to us. on average 10-15 alignments a week.

2. $20,000 to replace it. hard to come up with that money on short notice

I understand completely. Our store does around 4-6/day. When the time comes to replace look into the hawkeye systems. They are badass, so much quicker and easier to setup.

You have to look at the lost profit potential though. That machine has the potential to pay for itself in less than a year. Not to mention the lost profits and time from replacing suspension components.

We got a Hunt.under 2 years old Hawkeye system at our shop. I love it is simple and easy to use. It has cut our align time in half.

what is this hawkeye system you speak of and why is it that much faster then using a hunter machine? is it cheaper too?

Instead of using sensors mounted on the wheels, it has boards with triangle pictures on it mounted to the wheels. The system has several cameras mounted above it and it snaps pictures couple times a second. Its quicker because the compensation process only involves rolling the vehicle forward then back then a caster swing. No need to jack up, literally takes 2-3 mins to setup. I think they are around 12k-15k. Also no costly maintance if a sensor gets dropped

Interesting, but I bet the basic idea isn't patented, just how they decided to do it, so competition could be right around the corner.

For an at-home alignment, ... or a hobby shop/friends and family shop... they are good, assuming you have the space (the rolling calibration takes a lot of room if you dont have a 4 post lift). Find alignment specs online from your favorite source,.. make a custom profile,.. and align away!

If you run a shop and wish to charge for alignments... these machines take a considerable amount of time to complete an alignment compared to newer machines. Time that could be spent doing more profitable things.
