Anyone raise a low tool box?

Has anyone ever raised a tool box? I'm 6'1" and have a KRL7022 with the side locker. Both loaded down. I was thinking of getting a 6x8 or similar and routering out a notch for the wheels and just put a piece at each corner. Or stacking 3 2x8 pieces and securing a 4th one on the top, notched for the wheels. Anyone done this? I'm a little worried about that much weight shifting.

I'm guessing your box stays in one place and doesn't get rolled about ?

What about putting taller casters on it?

No. It usually only moves when I've had enough **** from whatever dealer I'm at. And it already has 6" casters. I'd like it to be about another 4-6" taller.

A guy that works for me had a cart build for his Kennedy box for the same reasons.
Its made out of 2x2 tubing with 8 inch casters on it. Gave his box an extra 3 inches. Also has a handle bent out of round tubing welded to the base.

Guess you could make something like that with 2x4 tubing and 8-10 inch casters? That should get you your 4-6.

Edit: Id have to look but I think he's got some 1x1 angle on top of the tubing to prevent the box from siding off.

Your idea of cribbing (or at least that sounds like your plan) wouldn't be a bad idea as long as you don't plan on moving the box much and each platform had a large base area to prevent tip over.

It would be best to build a frame for the box to sit on then mobilize the frame. If you bolted ~6" column risers between the bottom of the box and the casters, you would induce quite a large moment about the mounting area on the bottom panel of the box. Even when the box is static, especially with the offset casters that are on the box stock.

Yeah I believe cribbing was the term I was thinking of. I was just wondering about it being able to hold that much weight if I used one solid piece of 4x6 or 6x8 for each caster without splitting.
