Any thoughts on these two small old screwdrivers?

old_screw_drivers.jpg

Any guess at the age? I see no markings on the screwdrivers or the pocket clip. My first thought was that I would just throw them away because I really do not need another screwdriver. Then I thought.... but maybe I will remove the rust because why not?

I am amused that the red handle is bent, so, I assume that someone (talking to you Grandpa) thought it was a pry bar.

Do you think I need to worry about evaporust negatively affecting the handles? I have a couple things I can use, but, I think evaporust will be the easiest based on amount of work required.

I found a few similar looking screwdriver photos trying to figure out roughly when these were made and/or who made them. I am assuming 1930's - 1960's. I am also guessing that nobody knows, but, they just do not make screwdrivers this small usually. Blade tips of this size usually have much nicer and larger handles now.

since they appear to be pocket drivers , size of handle is really irrelevant . They were probably cheap tools for adjusting for whatever .
I wonder if the handle was from heat .
no other help .

Thanks MAD, that gives me something more specific to search. I saw a few similar but they all looked newer than these. Here is an "after" picture since I went ahead and removed some of the rust. I considered polishing the pocket clip but did not. I found an even smaller screwdriver, that little one is very hard to use, total length is under 2-1/4 inches.

There were several styles of the red handles. From what I can observe, the changes were not always reflected in the catalogs.
That looks exactly correct.

But looking at old catalogs may not help you say .. that is frustrating. I kind of like them even though I probably won't use them much.

Looks similar to a Miller's falls No. 855 vest screwdriver.

There is a very slight difference in the handle shape as you go from the primary handle in the catalog I'm looking at right now, but knowing that they change the shape without updating catalogs, and knowing that I might be looking at the wrong year, runs cut ability to this

I might look at a few newer catalogs, but I think I know what they are now. You guys really rock it. I appreciate it.
