I have been looking for saltus wrenches for a while now and it seems that there are not many brands available. Maybe they are called by a different name. When I search for "saltus" there are not many hits.
Do any of you guys use this type wrench?

Yeah I've seen those ... they are very expensive ... look like they replace using a socket and breaker bar ... or a deep offset box end wrench at a much higher price ...

Has anyone found a use for these where a socket and breaker bar or deep offset wrench wouldn't work?

I believe they went to catalog only at Sears now. They don't much use that I see, but several people I know who have them, say, when you need them, you need them.
I believe one of my friends uses them for electrical work mostly anymore.

This type of wrench is very handy for getting into tight places. It is like a deep offset box wrench that flexes to any angle. A flex head breaker bar is a lot bulkier because this type of wrench flexes right at the socket instead of above it. I have wanted a good set of these for years but have not been able to justify the high price. Sears has never offered these in metric for some reason so a USA made set is not cheap. Here is a link to the SK set

I bought an imported set from harbor freight and it was absolute ****. I currently have a taiwan set from Great Neck tool that I purchased in a Discount Auto parts store for about $16. This is not a bad set for the money and has held up for a few years of occasional use. It is Great Neck #51010 open end socket wrench set. I hope to replace this set with a better set some day if only to keep my other wrenches from complaining about the neighborhood going downhill etc...

I don't like reserves on auctions, so I don't usually put a reserve on mine, and as such these will sell tonight. I was hoping to get al least 150.00 for them as they are priced at over 500.00 on the Mac tools web page. It doesn't appear as they will reach that as of right now though. That is part of the fun of Ebay though, you never know if you are going to get your price or not.

I'm all for having 100 different ways to take out a bolt, but these have always seemed like a idea that was well past it's usefulness. Just like the old style ratcheting wrenches.

That's what I mean a set of flex head ratcheting wreches are far higher up my list then these but they look cool so if the right deal come's along I'll bite I am sure I could find a use for them

Whenever I've used one (and it's been pretty rare) it seems like they're not meant for a lot of torque. You get that "things feel like they're bending" feeling. And you certainly can't break a bolt/nut unless the wrench is at 90 degrees to the socket....kind of clumsy.

I have had a Proto set of those for over 20 years, I never got in the habit of reaching for them, but have no desire to part with them!

Wasn't this type of wrench widely used before the whole ratchet idea finally caught on? I am talking way back in the day

I have one that we use on the blower mainfold for a 454 chevy. Two of the bolts are down in a square hole and are at about a 45 deg angle. No way to even bend a flat wrench to fit and a scocket is too big and at the wrong angle.
Not much use for it other than that but its a lifesaver on those two bolts.
