First comment "I’m sorry for your loss, but bro had autism for tools… only reason I know is cuz I do too 🤣"

My son is autistic and during our research on the topic I realized I am also autistic so I can relate with the tool obsession. Btw that comment was probably correct and many obsessed people on this forum would probably fall into some category of high functioning autism....

I just want to know where/when the estate sale is.

He had dementia, when it first started setting in is when the collecting escalated. He kept going back and the rep kept selling him the same thing over and over.

No reason why you should be selling 18 of the same item that’s guaranteed for life to a man in his late 70’s and early 80’s, let alone multiple of them.

Man, **** that snap-on rep.

Let's hope they get an estate company that knows what they are looking at...not just 'hand tools'...

I really hope they get an accurate inventory by part number, condition, and MSRP before they do anything with the lot. It will be a bunch of work but the value of that many tools makes it worth it.

Needlenose pliers are around $60/set...figure he has $2500+ in pliers alone..probably more,.but hard to count how many are there in the pics

when I die, someone is going to go through my stuff and find like 40 tape measures and 500 sharpy markers. at any given time I can only find about 1 tape measure and 2 markers. but I know the others are there somewhere :ROFLMAO:
I wish somebody would go through and find my 40 tape measures before I die so I can stop buying more!

Tape measures, flashlights, allen wrenches, screwdrivers, multimeters, sockets (especially 10mm), cans of spray lube, tubes of anti-seize and threadlocker, etc., etc., etc.

Nobody is organizing my garage except me! I remember when my mother-in-law came to live with us after my daughter was born. She was only there for about 3 months but my God she arranged everything the way she thought it should be and I can find absolutely nothing in the kitchen, bathroom, or anywhere else in the house. It's a wonder I found clothes to wear!

Man, **** that snap-on rep.

Unfortunately my experience with dementia is it tends to increase behaviors and decrease filters. The sweet old lady who bakes cookies for the neighborhood, likely keeps going (although watch out for inadvertent ingredient changes), but that kind of crotchety neighbor who behaves for appearances sake often turns into a right ******* because the part of the brain that reminded him not to say everything that crosses his mind has gone walkabout.

I imagine a lot of the members here who like collecting, but rein in their excesses could be at great risk of following a similar path if they were to be afflicted with dementia and their bank account access left unattended.

I had to become a conservator for my mother when dementia took over. I quickly gained disdain for some large companies and new respect for others based on how they responded. Some were very understanding and helpful going so far as to refund a couple months of service payments, others did everything they could to **** any last pennies that they could get.

According to the thread he was let go.

Ain't nearly enough, but it's something.

Good. I imagine they are fairly limited in options and liability beyond firing the guy, but it wouldn't be a bad PR move to at least send a rep over to help catalog the collection.

I came close to that when my FIL died he had all kinds of crazy tools in his shop including work benches made from bowling alley flooring.
Not all brand new like that but complete SK Wayne socket kits, lathes that ran off of belts, ramdon weird name engine rebuild tool kits, ect and ect.
I have no doubt people here bought some of the stuff when I sold them.

I have a friend who went through and organised a dead friends shop. I said give me a list and I'll list it on GJ.

The Auctioneer told the family the auction will probably get equal or more than list at the 'Estate Auction Sale'. Apparently he had a bunch of nice acreage stuff also.

If the man had dementia, and if the Snap-On rep was taking advantage, that is a serious issue.

Alternate theory: I just hijacked a Snap-On truck, but my fence says he can't handle all that at once. But if I go on Reddit, and tell a story of a man who was a victim of a terrible disease...

I couldn't stop looking at this pic and the and the stack of needle nose pliers... 1755275070778.png

He's was probably like me. I don't have dimentia (at least I don't think I do, but then, if I do, I probably wouldn't know), but I always buy dupes because I can't find the originals when I need it. Then I need it again, and can't find the dupe, so buy it again.

Not so much with tools, but other stuff, like loctite, I usually find the original bottle when I put the new one away.

Same (see post 17), and it goes for both my wife and I. My wife was cleaning out the pantry and found a jar of mayo that expired in 2022 (among other expired stuff).

It ***** when you forget where you place things. I searched the garage and shop for a missing tire repair kit with no success, and it bothered me to no end not having it immediately available. I purchased one online yesterday afternoon to replace the one I apparently lost, and yesterday evening I found the old one under the rear seat of my truck when looking for something else.

Oh well, now I'll have another one to keep in my wife's vehicle.

Yeah, because you would probably have a few repeat customers.

I would bet that some of the folks that would need/like/want that service, would have relapses, and require another go at it.

Do you read the Garage Sale thread?

Honestly, doesn't taking advantage of a dementia sufferer by repeatedly selling him the same tools qualify as, at least, elder abuse?

I say sentence the SO sales person to life working in a care home... preferably cleaning bedpans.
