So the beginning of June I was looking at purchasing this wrench set from tool topia.

http://www.tooltopia.com/sk-hand-tool-86048.aspx

Back then I remember it being $375.36 cause I took a screenshot of my cart. Today I go and look at it again to buy and now it's $541.99.

Seems to be quite a jump in price for 2 months from the same distributor. Anyone seen something like this before?

For that price Id go to home depot and buy it piece meal! Those are seldom used sizes anyways. Laugh at me if you want, but my toolset consists of older stanley, husky and kobalt stuff and it was used professionally for a few years until I swapped to another career. Only the 14mm stanley (which coincidentally looks EXACTLY like a mac wrench) is slightly marred. And I abused the **** outta my stuff.

For that price you can get two snap on sets

I don't think you looked at the size of those wrenches. Be about $700 in Snap-on.

I bought mine all in Proto, a piece at a time on ebay, with the smaller ones mostly coming from yard sales. I set a limit of $40 per wrench for those over 1 1/8", and some I got for $20 to $25. I completed a set of matched Proto, all the way to 2 1/4". Most were new, a few I had to settle for lightly scuffed. I'm into my entire set from 3/16" to 2 1/4" for about $500. Did take me most of a year, though. Along the way, I got numerous extra wrenches along with the ones I wanted, I sold most of them for probably $200 profit back, so the overall set was about $300.

Okay so with the fear that I will be crucified for this I will first say that SK are awesome USA made tools. I value USA made tools very much and have a ton of Snap On, S-K & Craftsman USA but I also have chosen Sunex and Gearwrench for some tools based on not only quality but value. Now if you are using these size wrenches daily you probably couldn't beat the quality. I only post this to show a very good quality and far more affordable option for 5 of the the most popular size wrenches in this set. For the price and if you are only purchasing these to have if you ever need them this set may fit the bill and save hundreds of $.

I have to agree. I love USA stuff but I got some crecent brand wrenches from menards for my 1 3/8 -2" . Just couldn't justify a huge price tag for them.
