Anyone seen these drawer slides before? Proto top chest

I picked up a Proto 9930 model top chest on CL, looks to be 30 years old I'd guess? The slides on it look unusual-- they don't have lift tabs like on Kennedys or Waterloo chests, but there is a tab. I'm not sure what to do; press it in some way with a screwdriver?

The slides are quite narrow at the front and it doesn't seem possible to slip a slice of ducting metal in there, like on a vintage snapon, to remove it that way either.

If anyone knows more I'd love to hear it. Here are a couple of pics of the slide, a top and side view.

The slides run up against a triangular metal stop. You have to work the slide over the stop. I've done this with screwdrivers. It's a PITA, and you have to be careful not to damage the slides.

I had a similar narrow slide challenge the other day. I used a bi metal hack saw blade but first ground the teeth off about 8" on one end and then put about a 20 degree bend back from the end about a half inch. I also had to sharpen the end so it could get under the spring clip that was catching on the stop. Worked good because it's stiff. Ed.

I have the same box only a little bit older. It has the same slides though.

Those are outside slide tabs. GENTLY work a flat head screwdriver under the tab from the side closest to the chest on and lift just a bit. As you lift, pull the drawer out. You'll know when you're past the drawer slide stopper underneath. Repeat on the other side.

If these instructions are not clear, let me know and I will take some pictures on mine.

Hi guy, can you post a photo of the your custom slide tool? I made one for my craftsman boxes but I cut a sliver off the blade to remove the teeth.

I doubt this is like the OP's slides but these drawer slides weren't easy to release. On this old round emblem 6 drawer MAC the slides are very narrow and the springs on the movable portion of the slides were bent out so far it was hard to get between them and the slide fixed to the box so you could get them to ride over the stop. On this box the movable slide comes out with the drawer first and then you can pull the movable slide off the fixed drawer slide from the rear. If that makes any sense. Anyway it's really fast to grind a hack saw blade to size and once sharpened it could get in the really tight gap so the spring could ride over it. Ed.

You are totally correct. You can release them from the outside. Just slip the flat tip in between the outside of the slide and exert some outward pressure. This box is made by duplex
