Anyone tried an Artic King?

Been thinking about finally putting AC in the garage, but I'm choking a bit on the prices of the larger through wall units. I live just outside of Phoenix, AZ, and I can deal with the dry heat in the summer just fine, but when it gets humid, my **** gets kicked pretty fast. Plus, the bugs pile up REAL fast at night out here in the desert version of the sticks, so I'm not even considering an evap cooler (and I have a decent stock of machine tooling out there, so I really don't want to be adding more humidity either...I'm just imagining myself forgetting to turn it off one day, and coming back out to a nice rust layer on my mill).

That said, I really only need it for maybe 3 months out of the year, I'm perfectly comfortable at 80*F with a fan running, and I don't have the budget right now to get super fancy with a mini split system.

My garage is the typical 2.5 car, fiberglass insulated on all walls plus blown in on the ceiling. I plan to add radiant barrier to the garage door as well. No existing windows to put an AC unit in, and I don't really want to add one just for an AC either.

I was thinking about one of these things - Walmart Artic King through wall through an exterior wall. Wondering if anyone else has tried one in a garage environment...

I use an Arctic King Window Air Conditioner. It has a removable, easy-to-clean air filter alongside a filter-change reminder that lets you know when it needs to be replaced. Top-mounted adjustable vents enable you to direct the cool air where you need it. This item includes a mounting kit for vertical-opening windows for a quick and easy installation.

I have an 18k LG through the wall in Phoenix. Works good. Garage is 750sq ft and well insulated

Have a small artic king. Got it from Menards when I was living in Indy. I had central ac in the house, but used it in a spare bedroom/office. I liked to keep it cool. I spent a lot of time in there when I was finishing up my Bachelor degree, and it seemed to make more sense to keep the house a bit warmer and have the office be cool. Used it for a one or two summers out in Indy, and it is use in the master at my new house because it has no central ac. This will make the 3rd summer in ohio, and 4th or 5th overall. Still working great, and the girlfriend and I keep it cranked pretty low so it runs a fair amount.

I'm no AC expert, but I would think a 14k might be a little undersized for a 2.5 car garage.

You can stick any unit through the wall, the ones with removable guts are just easier. Here's how my 8K LG "window unit" fits in my tool room. Some aluminum angle, scrap 2x4s, some trim and little pencil work.

This Samsung 10.5K works well enough to cool the other 684 sq/ft in the shop. I'd have done a 12K or 18K but we had the 10.5 so cost was zero to use it. Does surprisingly well.
