Just wondering if anyone has picked one of these up yet? 1100ft lbs of torque and is "suppose" to be as good as Snapon at 1/4 of the price. Reviews seem to be favorable but there are being sold out in most stores. Anyone got one?

Long ago I sold mac tools and we had a rather powerfull air gun. Would just about take anything off including heavy equipment. Guys would tell me hf was the same. No, far from it. Also took one of the so called good as mac and so apart. Was amazing how badly the parts were made. So just be carefull. If they do work then good for hf. Just sayin.

Just bought 2 of them.

So far, damn good tool, hits hard as hell and is quieter then my Snap On.

We run these things hard around here. We over pressurize them, and generally abuse the **** out of them. I will let you know how they hold up.

My biggest fear is they won't survive small falls off of benches and tool carts. That has killed more IR units then anything else.

There are a few -

I was in the market for a new 1/2" impact and had the $20 off coupon in hand so i bought the 1/2" XT. This is going to replace my older Craftsman impact which came is a set of air tools and is rated at 300ft/lbs so it will be a substantial upgrade for me even after watching the review.

I have only played around with it but it is light and comfortable and the finish is good. It is made in Taiwan if that makes a difference. Going to be used in my garage so it won't get abused too much.

I bought this last week and had to use it yesterday. I was so impressed with the torque it has. Broke the bolts lose on my drive shaft and the pinion nut on my 2500 Ram. It didn't even break a sweat, out performed my napa impact gun that it replaced.

I just got mine...Well, they said Monday anyway....out of stock ATM.
I got the 1/2 XT for $99..It is on sale right now for $119 and used the $20 off coupon listed above.

So I just picked up one of these 1/2" on their $119 black Friday weekend sale.

I got denied the 20% coupon on Saturday as the manager said the Black Friday sale was a "side walk" sale and not eligible under the coupon. I did not buy then but went back today and purchased it for $99 on the cyber Monday sale.

Maybe you're not aware, but Mac sells impacts made by the same company as HF does. Mac AW612q ,for example. Florida Pneumatic is their makers name.

If you read the fine print on those 20 and 25 off coupons you will find there are all kinds of exemptions. All the cabinets, floor jacks, compressors and anything with the Earthquake brand name plus other things are exempt. You have to wait for a special sale for a particular item in this category or a sale on that exempted HF house brand.

I agree it might be possible that it might have inferior components but it seems to me that everyone is liking it as of now. Time will tell if the longevity of the gun but for $120 i think its worth a gamble after seeing the YT video

When the Eartquake brand first showed up it was when IR was pushing the Thunder gun. I assumed it was their attempt to compete. Somebody said they were similar. I pulled up both illustrated parts breakdowns. Except for a couple of trigger parts, it was the same drawing. Whether they were made in the same place or used almost all of the same parts, of the same quality, I cannot say but my feeling is that it is the same gun. The HF has worked fine in my home garage for a long time.

I would like to see a update, I'm sure they would be great for home use but I question how they will hold up under real use/abuse. Only time will tell.

I have the 1/2" Earthquake, not the XT. It is all I need. Would like the XT, but just not required here.

They may both be the equal of the competition in light use. What isn't clear, is how well they hold up long term. Not a concern for me.

What does separate them is parts availability for repair.

Luckily it isn't 'long ago' anymore. These new ones are much better than the old ones were.

The SO has no reduced power in reverse which is no big deal but in forward the HF reduced power settings are spread out to really make a difference. In the SO they are not much less than the full power setting. I got that from the video. That was a well done test and they have a big invesrment in test equipment. It was much better than those videos where the guy spends half the time unpacking the box and then tells you that one has a nicer color.

It's not. I even has 4 screws holding the hammer cover on, the IR has 3. It was made by Florida Pneumatic.

The linked Husky is not the same as the Earthquake XT. There are visual differences, and the specs are not even close to each other.

It's been mentioned earlier in this thread, but here's the vid. The Earthquake XT actually beats the Snap On MG725 in head to head testing:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/2MDjgY8Vwgo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Is it as reliable? Who knows, but with the HF's at 1/4 the price I seriously doubt the Snap On will outlast 4 of the HF Earthquake XTs, and that's the real question.

How do you know they are the same? Just wondering. The top, where the squared off rear portion meets the rounded front portion, looks completely different between the two.

They look pretty damn close to me. I can't say for sure that they're the exact same, just similar, probably the same manufacturer. I apologize for the odd size pics, not going to go through the trouble of resizing and uploading them.

HD has the compact version, which also looks just like the Earthquake, although for some reason it's not showing up on their website.

I don't know about home depot's but the Sunex HD guns certainly look identical to the HF XT guns.

Myself, I own an 3/4" Earthquake XT, and I am none to impressed with it thus far. Emailed HF about it and got no response. Reverse torque is NOT as advertised with the gun I own. It struggles hard and will not loosen an over torqued lug nut over 600 lb./ft.

First time out of the box it struggled loosening some lug nuts. I got out my NITROCAT 1250K 1/2" drive, and WITH an 1/2" to 3/4" adapter that beast of nitrocat didn't even flinch getting them loose.

I will say I like the feel and balance, and low noise level of the gun. It goes forward fine, and we verified with a torque wrench it'll get to at least 600 lb./ft. going forward. But if it won't loosen a slightly over torqued wheel nut on occasion, what's the point of having it?
