Anyone use a LINK BELT on a compressor ?

Has anyone replaced their V-belt with a LINK-belt on a compressor?

I have had good luck with link belts on other tools, but haven't seen anyone using them on compressors and don't know if there are any reasons not to use them.

Most belt driven compressors I'm familiar with have more horsepower than the link belts are supposed to handle.

I used dual link belts on my four cylinder because the crankshaft was bent causing a large wobble in the sheave. It worked that way for many years until I retired.

I use link-belts on everything. My compressor is an Ingersoll T30 two stage. I have twin link-belts driving the compressor from a 5hp Baldor

Do you find it really lowered the vibration on the compressor?

I have never thought about lower vibration. I don't have a vibration situation.

I have one on my 60 gallon compressor. I didn't really notice any difference on the compressor, but on my drill press I noticed no more "thump!" when I first turn on the machine, and seemed to run smoother. Granted, the old belt was old.

I have twin link belts on my 7.5hp Speedaire compressor. Never had a problem.

So, what happened to the compressor when you retired?

The compressor was sold at a retirement auction. I use link belts now on lapidary machines. Specifically for their vibration reduction. Lapidary is very demanding of precision.
