Looking at some of the "RV" spec plans, and there are some nice ones.

Definately want a lift, and don't want to be able to not use it's full potential.

So, I need/want high ceilings...

Heh, no..... ;) lol

I don't own an RV or want one, just wondering if anyone used an "RV" spec garage plan to make for a nice garage area with lift?!

You could choose a plan you like, and then ask your builder to adjust the height of the walls to give the ceiling height you want.

Maybe check with your township first, ours has a limit on the height of a garage. Lucky for me, they didn't have a height limit for a "machine shed".

I started the same way as you are, looking at plans I could buy online. In the end I drew up a sketch of what I wanted, then got someone to make drawings for me that I could use for my permit and for the builder to work from. It didn't cost very much to have them drawn.

just style wise id stay away from them...the big door just looks out of place, just have the whole garage built high enough for a lift (depends on what vehicles you plan on placing on the lift) or just build one section higher without changing the exterior look as much as an rv style garage would

I have always thought the RV bay was an excellent idea from the perspective of resale. I think it depends how long you plan on being in the place and other such factors. I think it seems like a good idea. A mezzanine in the front or back half of the building could be accessed via the lift as well.

i think that if you used a shorter door, and added transom windows or something like them above the door it would make the building look less like an rv garage and more at home. plus they add natural light, and arent easy to access.

that said i actually like the plans posted
