Anyone use lindrs yet?

Looks like a good idea, not sure if it'll take off.

I'm a little squeamish about giving them access to my bank accounts though. Seems like it's wanting access to everything.

I am not eager to rent tools to unknown strangers, will the customers be vetted?

From the faq, "You will receive the value of the replacement cost that you placed on the tool. The renter agreed to the replacement cost when they rented to tool."

Same goes for damages per the faq.

That being said, I wouldn't rent my favorite or irreplaceable stuff. I'd really like a way to do this, more with neighbors than folks a ways away.

Bunch of us at work talked about making an excel document with all our tools, so people could see what other had for borrowing.

Never came to fruition, I have a pile of tools and borrow a lot of stuff out. My scaffolding is by far the most used.

Interesting concept, but wow they need a lot of info just for tool renting. Just looking at the FAQs I feel like I'm applying for a mortgage.

I couldn't do it, I don't borrow either, if I need it I'll buy it then I always have it. Might be good for some people, but autozone lends for free & there are lots of rental places. Once a tool hits my shop it's home, I have plenty of tools that have only been used once & I am OK with that.

I think it would be too much of a pain to coordinate with individuals to rent something. Home Depot tool rental is open from 6 am to 9 or 10 pm (8 pm on Sunday). Individuals would also be a huge pain to deal with on damage most likely. A rental place knows that their tools are going to get scratched and dinged up. Rental places often don't care what happens as long as the tools still functions as intended. An individual might expect their tool to never get a scratch while it is out on a rental.

I rented a Milwaukee PEX expansion tool two or three times for about $40 each time. I needed one again recently so I bought a Milwaukee PEX expansion tool, two heads, and grease for about $300 new. (I already own M12 batteries.) The rental place that had the PEX tool was at least an hour round trip away. I expect to use the PEX expansion tools at least a few more times.

Same here. General consensus around here seem to be never lend anybody anything. Friends, neighbors, family..NO ONE. Can't see this becoming a thing. Everything seems simple and all hunky dory on paper, it sounds like a dumpster fire in waiting.

Anyone ever see the condition of parts that auto stores rent out? And who's left holding the bag when the part you rent out breaks the day after it's returned?

Anyone ever deal with selling stuff to dickheads on CL or MP? Now imagine renting to them and having to deal with them twice.

Add the fact you need to provide more info to a third party than if you were buying a home.
