If so, likes/dislikes?

I'd like to put up a couple 4x8 sections on my garage wall vs. putting random hooks in the stud to hold items.

Boy, my eyes are going bad. I though this was a discussion on prostate diagnosis.

Apologies to the op. I have never used that product. Hope someone can be of assistance.

I use general MDF slatwall, works well. Throw on a coat of paint.

Then you can build a cabinet carcass around it...

That looks terrific. Are you using Proslat-specific hooks or generic slatwall hooks?

And also, do you find white to get really dirty easily? I'm thinking of ordering light grey or charcoal.

Yup. Love it. No complaints at all

I bought mine at Home Depot. It was already coated with a white covering. It's held up very well, even with SME heavy shelves, etc. I think Lowes now sells it too.

Thanks man. I'm using generic hooks and brackets. I find the brackets on ebay in bulk really cheap. The white never really gets dirty, I only have to run the broom over it once a month to knock down cobwebs. Greasy hand prints wipe right off.

I love the fact that as I add more stuff, I can rearrange my shelves and such without a bunch of holes left behind.

Connecticut - not sure why though...
Just my experience, but I've hung MDF slat before and it always pulled the tongue off the slat. (obviously on the heavier things). My pegboard between my shop (PEG) and home (SLAT) is nearly identical, and the peg board at my shop had held up just fine loaded the same way. (beats me how) Maybe the slat I had was real cheap or something. So maybe buy the best quality slat you can find. Easy to buy new hangers, harder to replace the slat.

They definately do look better though.

Just my two cents.

As mentioned above, I used the stuff from Lowes. I buy my accessories from Gershell Brothers in Phila. (They do mail order, too.)

I've never had a problem with the slatwall breaking. In fact, my garage door caught on one hook...and bent the hook...but it stayed in the slatwall. When I tried to straighten the hook in my vise....I pulled the bench around before the hook bent.

I have the roof, windows and backlight for the RT/10 on slatwall shelves. They have outriggers to help take the weight.

Love mine. These pics were from several years ago right after I finished my build, but you can see the layout. I have long sections of the aluminum reinforced, and same for the MDF/laminate. I've pulled a few pieces of the MDF out with heavy items, but never come close with aluminum.

Although nothing is hanging in the pic shown, all my slatwall in my shop has metal inserts in the slats. That gives it probably 5 times the strength.

those are great pics.

i am more interested in the pro slat, however, because it's pvc, in lieu of traditional mdf slatwall. the latter can be really good though if you get the highly compressed (upgraded) board with aluminum slats. more expensive though. but more durable.

woodrail that looks like a showroom workshop. really nice! do you build trade show booths or are you a cabinetmaker?

I just put up one 4' x 8' section of charcoal Proslat. The installation isn't bad, if you follow the instructions precisely. I've used Proslat slatwall accessories, a Hyloft slatwall shelving set (45" wide wire shelves), and an Azar acrylic shelf (probably only 18" wide). I'm going to purchase items from different brands, and even some items designed for pegboard, to see if they fit. I have another 4' x 8' section to install, and I just ordered a 4' x 4' section in white.

By the way, an impact driver goes a long way in making the install easier. I installed the initial 4' x 8' section solo, other than having my daughter hold the initial j-channel against a level line.

I had to cut around a GFCI, which wasn't too bad. I was patient, because I wanted clean cuts, so I used aviation snips for most of the cuts. The backside has an airgap, and is ribbed, so it's a bit challenging to cut. I scored it multiple times from the front, till I could see that I was almost through. Then I just set the scored edge, face down, on a stable flat surface. I then hit it with a deadblow hammer (relatively gently), till the piece snapped off at the scoring line. I didn't get any of the stretch marks you can get with plastic materials when you stress them.

Am I reading the description on Amazon right? $181 just to cover 8' x 4' section of wall?

I wanted to get some single rails of one of the system available at Lowes/HD/Sears. For the cost of a single 8' long rail, I could buy a sheet of plywood and cut french cleat rails and go around my entire garage single rail. Spacing them 9 inches apart up the wall, I could cover my entire garage with just a few sheets of plywood.

I didn't do the plywood, but had a bunch of 3/4" scrap wood. I only have 1 wall done so far, but I have 8 rails of french cleats and just made my own brackets and such from scrap wood to hang shelves, a ladder, table saw accessories, tools, extension cords, etc. Cost me nothing so far since I had the scrap wood, but to do an entire 24' wall would probably take a single sheet of plywood vs. 3 of these slat wall sheets at $181 each.

Here is a section in my shop with slot wall that has been painted and trimmed out. I like it. It was free.

I'm not done with it, but I like it. I bought it used from a buddy in the hardware business. It has the aluminum strips in each slat.

I've got five boxes of 4x8 proslat panel strips in light grey and white to cover 100% of a wall from floor to ceiling.
Rather than installing in exact 4x8 panels I was planning to stagger the panel strips like hardwood flooring so it's full width across the 21' garage wall. It'll depend how cleanly I can cut the panels though cause I don't want eyesore joints at the edge of each row. Hank if you're the only other one on the forum who's used proslat guess I'll be a guinea pig. Will try your cutting method, and also try with a mitre saw, but not sure what blade will be best.

When I finished the attached garage walls (had just bare kraft faced insultation), I used slat wall from Menards. Pretty happy with it. Was disappointed that some of the smaller hooks come out awfully easy and fall on the floor and have to be reset.

I wish I could find hooks that stay put better.

Will probably use slat wall on the new 1000sf race shop.
