That much faster than the PC?

Please no rotary stories here. I am just interested in the Flex and its uses and merit vis a vis the PC.

flex's arent too bad, but i'm a rotary person. I have a Makita.

I have one. The disadvantage of it is the head is geared to the orbiting mechanism. The PC isn't, so the action is a little less aggressive. The biggest problem I have is keeping the polish, wax or cleaner from drying under the heat of the head. I've had zero issues with damage to my vehicles - I take my time and use lot's of quick-detail spray over the cleaners/polishes to keep them wet. Thus far I'm satisfied.

I use Adams' polishes/cleaners pretty exclusively, and I think they formulate their products to work better with the PC, but I'm still happy with my Flex.

I own a Flex Polisher.

Sold my PC 7424 to a buddy, and bought the Flex about 2 years ago. I am not a professional detailer by any means, but I like the Flex better than my old Porter Cable. I won't go back to a Porter Cable after using my Flex, but by that statement I am not downing the old PC by any means.

For compounding a car down and removing fine scratches, I found that the Flex does it faster. If I were only applying wax or light polish to a car, I would recommend the Porter Cable. Maybe it is just me, (I repeat that I am only a hobbyist, and not a professional detailer), but when I applied my chosen compound Meguiars M105 Ultra Cut using my machine and an Orange Lake Country pad, it just cut faster than a similar time using my old Porter Cable, (same pad, same compound).

Thanks for the responses. I am not seeing an overwhelming endorsement of the flex here. It sounds like it is better, but not that much. Maybe not worth the $$$.

I was hoping I would be wowed but it doesn't look that way. My PC was made back in the mid 90's when they were still made rock solid here in the USA. I think I was one of the first users when Griot showed the World how to detail with a PC random orbit. Griot used to sell them but now sells Chinese products. Oh well, the PC is now Chinese too so I guess it doesn't really matter.

What a shame what has happened to PC as a company. At one time they were the top dog for at least sanders, planers, routers and more, and now they are just Dewalt's second string.

I have both of them and the Flex will perform corrections much faster than the PC. You still have to make a proper choice of pad/product. I wouldn't want to be without my Flex.

The vendor that you linked to is a fantastic company deal with. Pick of some of their microfiber towels.

I have the flex, I actually got it from Pakshak. since I'm local, I went down and demo'd the Flex, PC, Maguires, and another one, forget the name. The flex was the smoothest operating and by far has the least amount of vibration. Holding on to the polisher for a couple of hours you will appreciate that. This is the first polisher that I used so I can't really compare but from what I hear it is faster correcting the the PC and that's a good thing right? isn't that the point of power tools. I have yet to run into a problem with it and didn't burn my paint so in my book it's a winner. spend a little more up front and in the long run you'll save. quite a few people have upgraded from the PC to the Flex, and if you really get into detailing then you'll want to too. at least that was my justification in spending more. buy once and be done with it. It's made in Germany if that makes any difference to you.

Am I missing something? - I just use my buffer .

I always thought those random orbits were like using a hand truck when a forklift is so much easier.

You can pick up a dewault or Makita buffer and they'll do every buffing or polishing job you ever imagined.

I have the flex,pc and Makita orbital. I use them all, but if you were going to have just one the Flex is the one to have. It is quieter than the pc and can get more aggressive than the pc. It much safer to use than the orbital. I use the Flex the most. www.autogeek.net has it for $309 and they have allot of package deals. If you want to talk detailing, their forum site is the best place to go. Mike is a professional detailer that works at autogeek and chimes in on forum all the time.
