anyone use their DA for buffing?

Im thinking of trying this for areas that my Makita wont fit into or around
I have a Hutchins DA 4500 so will need to get a velcro backing pad.
I ll need a wool pad as well as foam pad,thinking that 5 in will be better than 6 as I dont know the DA will handle 6 with a wool pad.

It can work but most sanding air DA are too fast..........best polishing is done at a slow head speeds.

Actually, they are completely useless for buffing if by buffing you mean removing color sanding scratches for which a rotary polisher is absolutely mandatory. For polishing if you use a Rupes 21mm orbit machine they will take swirls out fairly well but I prefer a true dual action machine like a Makita B06040 or Festool Rotex for that job.

For applying wax and sealant the RO works great. I use a 6" Dewalt for this purpose along with a white foam pad and have no complaints about it.

The 4500 is the worse possible random orbit for polishing as it's a 3/32" orbit machine. For color sanding it's the nuts as it produces less pigtail scratches. For polishing it doesn't have enough of throw to do anything. It's a far faster and better way to apply wax and sealant than by hand. Of that there is no doubt.
