That snap carpet looks pretty cool. I have been wanting to find a epoxy or acid etch installer in my area. I wanted the epoxy or coating proffesionally installed. This might be something to look into. Of course not having the time to do it still isn't solved.

The "tuffcarpet" is about the only carpet I've seen that might not trap shavings.... though I can't find a picture up close enough to tell for sure. All the other carpets would be a pain to vacuum shavings off of.

This is a reply I got from Modern Jess who put the tuffcarpet down in his garage:

The biggest problem with the carpet is they are put down as squares, and the adhesive isn't quite strong enough. Dragging an object across it would grab the edge of a square and smoosh it out of position. I've occasionally done that, though they smooth back down relatively easily. If one becomes problematic, I'll use some carpet adhesive. I also bought extras in case any get damaged.

Oil cleans out of them with some detergent and water, and they dry easily enough. Sawdust and metal chips, though, would be difficult to vacuum out. This particular solution works in my garage because I have a separate outbuilding where things get dirty. If I was doing wood or metal work in the garage, though, I definitely wouldn't have used carpet.

So, sounds like it might not be the ideal solution for you. For a garage that's more an extension of the living space (but happens to have vehicles in it) it's ideal.
