Hey guys, I've been look at the Tenhulzen 2 Wheel Alignment Tool Kit for setting alignments at home. Has anyone ever used one? For those of you who do alignments, what do you think of these? I'm just an intermediate DIYer but I'm also cheap and would love to save money. Reviews on Amazon are great, but we know that those can be false..

Nothing wrong with that tool set. You won't be able to do a 4 wheel alignment with it which even on a solid rear axle vehicle probably means a decent chance of a crooked steering wheel.

The biggest thing to getting accurate alignment readings with any tool (from the one shown all the way to a new hunter) is for the vehicle to be level and the suspension able to articulate after being jacked up. That is the hard part for a DIY'er but once you get the basics set up, the rest is as good or bad as the guy operating the tools :)

Would you need a quick jack for that or would jack stands work okay?

Probably close enough for an older car. For 4 wheel alignable cars it'll get you close enough to get to an alignment shop.
A spool of sewing thread and some masking tape or thumb tacks to hold it on will get your toe real close too.
At least it comes with a High Precision tape measure
This whole system assumes your wheels have zero runout.
How are they doing caster without turn plates? Measuring camber change when you turn the wheels on the ground isn't going to be real accurate.

You'd be surprised at how well two vinyl tiles with grease in between works, or several sheets of newspaper, or even some sand under the wheels; so long as you jostle/bounce/settle the suspension after every adjustment. Sure, Turn Plates make it easier and faster but you pay for that convenience.

I have the set and I like it. I don’t know what shops charge outside of my area but I think an alignment is going for $180 these days so the kit pays for itself after the second alignment and I’ve aligned quite a few cars with it. There is a learning curve and it does take some time but I have it down to about 45 minutes. The shop that had the fancy machine could not get my girlfriend’s 69 Mustang aligned and we ended up getting it figured out with the kit.

To remedy the crooked steering wheel is pretty simple, take the vehicle down a straight empty road after alignment, drive it straight, adjust the steering wheel out through turning both tie rod sleeves equally, drive it again, and you might need to make another adjustment or two, then take it back and just confirm toe did not change. I’ve aligned vehicles with pretty sloppy steering and have been able to get them tracking straight and have the steering wheel center when the alignment shops could not.

The more I become capable of doing, the less I rely on and pay someone else who cares a lot less about the outcome.
