I have not tried to use different nails in my MCN-150. I just buy the Bostitch nails and have not had any issues. Best thing to do is try a few racks of the Simpsons and see if your gun will cycle them.

My only issue with bostitch is that they provide no certifications of any kind with strong-ties or any other strap.

I must admit, I'm a little confused, the Simpson pocket install guide says 8d common nails, which suggest i don't need any kind of special nail, as others have indicated.

Hang on and I will find the spec that is required for CCA lumber. That will be the factor that is most critical when using HDG nails for hangers.

Ok, I grabbed a box of Strapshot nails out of the garage and it says on the box "made to fit all 30- 35 degree nailers" Including Bostitch MCN-120. MCN-250, F33PT.
Hitachi NR65AK
Paslode F250PP
Rap-A-Nail RN150, RN-250.
So, going by this info I would say that you can most likely use the nails that you listed without any problems. The Strap shot nails have a bend yield of 100,000 PSI. Try and find the spec on the Simpson nails and if it is equal to or close then don't worry about it. The strap shots are Hot dip Galvanized which means that they meet the corrosion resistance requirement to be used with treated lumber. Hot galvanized and EG do not meet the spec that is required for treated lumber.
The spec that you are looking for on your hangers and other hardware is G-185 ,if the hardware does not have a G-185 code on it check with the Mfg.. to see if it meets the corrosion resistance necessary to be used with CCA lumber. We just replaced a deck that was less than 4 years old and the builder did not use the proper hardware and the nails rotted away to almost nothing and all of the hangers and straps were rusted to the point of failure. If you are just using untreated wood then of course the standard hangers would do just fine.
